A RARE DISASTER

The crash of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 of Lion Air called the attention of the aeronautical community, not only for having happened with an aircraft with less than three months of use, but also, and mainly, because it involved a newly launched model. Since the accident with flight 320 of American Airlines with the Lockheed Electra, in February 3, 1959, no fatal accident with a commercial aircraft had occurred in such a short time from the beginning of its operations. The Electra had less than one month of service when flight 320 crashed during an approach killing 65 out of its 73 occupants.
