Modern beer trends are pushing flavors towards the sweet end of the spectrum, which has been to the great benefit of milk stouts. Simply speaking, milk stouts, sometimes called sweet or cream stouts, are traditional dark ales with the addition of lactose. The milk sugar adds a creamy mouthfeel to the beer, and a dose of sweetness that perfectly complements the roast coffee, chocolate and toast flavors of the moderate-alcohol (4–8% abv) stout.
