ADELAIDE HILLS

OLD IS NEW

THE Adelaide Hills are dotted with old country pubs that have been refurbed; one of the best is the Uraidla Hotel, furnished in a country/rustic chic style – with a bakery, brewery and café added next door. The site dates to 1867 but has a history of fires and closures and the long room facing the main street is all that remains of the original building. The burned timbers are visible with the ceiling structure exposed. As per the fashion of the 1930s, the front foyer entrance was renovated in the Art Deco style – and that vibe remains. Guests gravitate towards the fireplace in winter surrounded by original exposed stonework with artfully placed upside-down lampshades hanging from the ceiling. The Uraidla Hotel’s menu has been. Opening hours are 11am-midnight daily with lunch served from noon to 2.30pm and dinner from 6-8.30pm.
