POINT Leo Estate at Merricks is one of the most exciting winery newcomers to the Mornington Peninsula in decades. With superstar chef Phil Wood, formerly of Rockpool and Eleven Bridge, manning the pans, Point Leo, owned by the Gandel family, brings more fine wine, sculptures and first-class food to the $50 million estate. The wines are all single vineyard and made from fruit that has been hand selected and hand picked. The Gandel family has been making wine for the enjoyment of family and friends for almost a decade, growing chardonnay, pinot gris, shiraz and pinot noir. Sommelier Andrew Murch, previously from Melbourne’s Rockpool Bar & Grill and at Stokehouse, lists the family wines alongside an all-Victorian list. The on-site Sculpture Park on the 134ha estate houses an evolving selection of Australian and international pieces. Point Leo Estate, 3649 Frankston-Flinders Rd, Merricks; phone (03).
