‘Swish, swish, swish, swish’. This, and my slightly laboured breathing, is all I can hear as I head up an atmospheric snowy track through the trees, having found my rhythm. It’s late afternoon in the French ski resort of La Clusaz and I’m having a go at ski touring, marvelling at how my skis don’t slide backwards as I head straight uphill.
