He takes a decidedly down-home stance, but tempers it with a bit of swagger as well. On his latest EP, Pray Through Gritted Teeth, he veers from “Food Court Blues” — a hopped-up “Subterranean Blues”-like narrative that boasts a full-tilt frenzy — to the laid back lethargy of “If You’re Gonna Drive, I’m Gonna Drink” that kicks its crescendo into high gear.
