Sweet vermouth is both an essential ingredient for Manhattans, Negronis, and other cocktails and a wonderful drink that can be enjoyed on its own. More vermouths are imported to the United States from Europe now than ever before. With such a wealth of sweet vermouths available to consumers, we decided to take a closer look at some of the most prominent and commonly available sweet vermouths from Italy, France, and Spain.
Tasting the sweet vermouths neat helped us immediately realize how different they all were, especially in color, body, and flavor. We think all the sweet vermouths we tasted are worth trying. With this in mind, we chose to forgo our usual rankings. Instead, we took a closer look at the vermouths made within each region.
