Goodness knows what the weather will be like by the time this edition of Classic Boat lands on your doormat, but at the time of writing, Britain has just enjoyed the hottest May since 1948. Those of us concerned about climate change can draw some comfort from the fact that it was equally sunny 70 years ago, and I can personally testify that the winter of 1947 was as cold as it ever got. I know this because Mother told me the snow was so deep in Stockport that they had to dig us out of hospital. A bit of chill’s never bothered me overmuch ever since, but heat knocks me for six.
