lot of ‘firsts’ happen on my plot in June. There’s the first sighting of colour, bursting forth from sweetpea blooms between spring-sown vegetables and perennial herbs – all announcing that summer is finally here. But the ‘first’ that really puts a smile on my face is harvesting the first handful of autumn-sown broad beans. That’s followed by digging up the autumn-sown garlic, and then there is the popping
