More than R1 million was allegedly offered to former Brand SA CEO Kingsley Makhubela by the current board, with a condition to submit documentary evidence in his possession as “a ploy to destroy crucial evidence” regarding alleged corruption at the entity.
The offer was confirmed by Brand SA in a statement on Friday after City Press approached the entity with new revelations that it sent Makhubela a “confidential agreement” despite Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi’s legal advice stating that payment would be viewed as inducement, and would amount to irregular and fruitless expenditure.
The board had initially drafted a settlement proposal that was sent to Ngcukaitobi for legal advice and included an ex gratia settlement of R900 000.
