CAR

from the editor

“Make a list of everything you want now and spend the next 25 years getting it, slowly, piece by piece.” That’s an iconic line of dialogue by Robert de Niro’s character, Nick Wells, in the 2001. It’s one that has stayed with me ever since I first heard it. Perhaps unconsciously it’s how I’ve gone about my career as well … slowly, piece by piece. Although I’ve been in the game for 13 years (not 25, as Bob would’ve preferred) as the new editor of CAR magazine, I do feel like I’m in my own heist movie of sorts. I’ve bypassed security and wound up in the CAR vault holding issue no. 1 from February 1957 - “The Kaptein” as I like to call it - and with the spotlights trained on me, the call rings out: “Alright, show us what you’re made of, son!” A daunting task.
