How to be a popular teacher

• you will never be cool in a student’s eyes. You are a teacher.• this does not mean letting• students need to depend on you, so they need to be able to rely on a consistent pattern of behaviour.• plan ahead to avoid situations where negativity may occur. If you know transitions always end up with you giving out sanctions, work on making those transitions smoother.• it’s important that the pupil feels liked, so remembering their name would be a great start. But push it even further – could you learn a few facts about their life and show an interest?• this does not necessarily mean lots of games; it can also mean just planning a really engaging set of explanations and tasks that have high reward.• being a teacher is about just that – teaching. Students don’t want you to be their mate.
