We’d planned our trip to Vietnam with much excitement and laughter – two friends travelling together for the first time in 30 years. Then the bombshell: my travel partner couldn’t come at the last minute, and I was left facing a long solo trip to the east.
The confident me – who easily segues from boardroom to large audiences – disappeared the minute she said, ‘I can’t come.’ My anxiety-ridden, helpless alter ego kicked in, and there was no getting rid of her, irritating as she was – despite my demands that she put on her big-girl travelling pants (and carry a fresh pair, just in case).
