- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Griffin is a master storyteller. He grabs your interest from the first page and never let's go. His characters are real and you come to love the heroes and hate the villains. This is at least the fourth time I have started reading the series. I highly recommend you become acquainted with this author. You will not be disappointed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a Master Class on military history. It explains why my grandparents held some of the views they did.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5the writer is very good don't forget to tell him
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The character development makes this so realistic and the historical references add to this. This is a real page turner and a most enjoyable book. I think it was written 30 years ago.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Familiar characters are cast into the battles with Japan near Guadalcanal and parts of Australia. Strong characters and great writing interweave with real people and events. I particularly liked the idea that the Sgt who knows too much is assigned to a combat unit by unknowing. I chuckled because I've seen the effect of too much secrecy. The climax is weak because it doesn't tie anything together and involves only one or two characters. This seems typical with Griffin's [series] books--the individual books blend, at the end, into one long memory.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5More new characters introduced as the war winds on. Time overlaps from the previous books as a result of so many characters and story lines, and the women are eye-rollingly unrealistic, as usual. But a good series and great insights into the history of World War II in the Pacific.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another outstanding entry in The Corps series by Griffin. The war in the Pacific is really heating up as familiar characters such as Galloway, Moore, McCoy, Dunn, and Pickering are further torn from their personal endeavors and cast into the battles with Japan near Guadalcanal and parts of Australia. With such strong characters and powerful writing, Griffin has added to one of the more memorable series I have yet tackled.
