About this audiobook

"Count on Jill Shalvis for a witty, steamy, unputdownable love story." -- Robyn Carr, New York Times bestselling author of Harvest Moon

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING
After dropping out of pastry school and messing up her big break on a reality cooking show, Leah Sullivan needs to accomplish something in her life. But when she returns home to Lucky Harbor, she finds herself distracted by her best friend, Jack Harper. In an effort to cheer up Jack's ailing mother, Dee, Leah tells a little fib - that she and Jack are more than just friends. Soon pretending to be hot-and-heavy with this hunky firefighter feels too real to handle . . .

No-strings attachments suit Jack just fine - perfect for keeping the risk of heartbreak away. But as Jack and Leah break every one of their "just friends" rules, he longs to turn their pretend relationship into something permanent. Do best friends know too much about each other to risk falling in love? Or will Jack and Leah discover something new about each other in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

This book was good, had some laugh out loud moments that were great, and I really liked how Jack was a strong character and how he believed in and supported/showed Leah how he saw her and how she should see herself. That said, Leah was a bit weakish for me. seemed to make the same silly mistakes repeatedly and I was getting a bit bored of watching that that happen. (That's what lost a star from me) Still a good book and I am looking forward to Ben and Audrey's Story!!!

Wow...just wow! Another incredible Lucky Harbor love story. In her usual style Jill Shalvis has us one again laughing and crying in this funny touching and most definitely sexy tale. Enjoy the story of how hunky Lucky Harbor firefighter Jack and his life long love Leah find their way. Very highly recommended.

I liked this story with its small town camaraderie, hunky hero and Facebook fun but the romantic relationship was just a variation of the same old stubborn no commitment male and female who agrees then falls in love. Chef Leah tells the mom of her old best friend firefighter Jack that they are dating.

Okay, but not the best in this series. Fun but not memorable.

Reality cooking star Leah moves back to her hometown to help her grandma out with her bakery. Jack, her best friend from the past, and Leah are thrown together when she fibs to his mom, who is recovering from cancer, that they are in a relationship to cheer her up.Basic story of best friends turned into more. This one took a while to get in to but was still good. A little angst, steam and even a little mystery/suspense thrown in made for a good read. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Good friends to lovers story. Jack and Leah have been friends for a long time. They grew up as neighbors, always there for each other. Jack was Leah's refuge when her father's abuse got to be too much. Meanwhile, Leah was there for Jack when his father died doing his job as a firefighter. Now Leah is back in Lucky Harbor to help out her grandmother at her bakery while she tries to decide what to do next. She had left culinary school in the last semester in order to participate in a baking competition show. She can't talk about how the show turned out, but you definitely get the feeling it didn't end well for her. With the whole town watching the show, Leah is determined to leave again before the final episode airs, but things aren't as easy as she thought they'd be. Her friendship with Jack is going strong again, but there's something else going on also. Then she tells Jack's mom. who is fighting cancer, that she and Jack are together in an attempt to give Dee more motivation to get better. And then their pretending gets a little out of hand.Jack spent his early years idolizing his father and determined to follow in his footsteps. He is now head of his station in the fire department, and living his life the way he wants. He has plenty of time for the ladies, as long as they know he doesn't do commitments. When Leah comes back to town, their friendship picks up right where it left off, until she makes that claim to his mother. He understands why she did it, but it is making his life hell. As much as he tries to keep a lid on their attraction, it's just too strong to deny. Both Leah and Jack are intensely attracted to the other. Their close friendship over the years has enabled them to see each other just as they are, faults and all. Their love for each other is obvious to everyone else, but Leah and Jack refuse to admit it. Both of them have issues that keep them from believing in a happy future. Leah's father's abuse destroyed her self-esteem. He expected perfection from her and belittled her constantly for not achieving it, telling her if it isn't perfect don't bother doing it. As a result, she has trouble finishing anything she starts. She can't believe that Jack would want more than friendship with someone as screwed up as she is. Jack has spent his adult life avoiding any sort of emotional commitment. He saw what it did to his mom when his father died and is determined that he won't put anyone through that kind of pain. He has also been trying to live up to his father's hero status by following exactly in his footsteps, even though his own interests lie along a slightly different path. When Jack and Leah start their charade they try to keep it all under control, but it's a losing battle.I loved seeing the two of them dancing around their feelings. Neither wanted to admit to themselves or others that they really weren't pretending to care. Jack is still trying to protect his heart, but he ends up breaking every rule he sets up, getting in deeper with Leah every time. I loved seeing the cool and calm Jack lose it whenever he is with her. Leah has fallen for Jack, but figures she blew her chance already and won't get a second shot at it. It takes her almost too long to realize that love doesn't expect perfection, and that Jack is everything she wants.Besides the drama of the developing relationship between Leah and Jack, there is plenty going on with the rest of the town. Old lady Lucille is still posting everything that is going on in town on facebook, with Jack and Leah one of her favorite subjects. Jack's mom is battling her cancer, but also coming to realize that she is partly responsible for Jack's issues. In her attempts to fix it she also learns more about herself. One of the best characters is Jack's Great Dane Kevin and his antics. He adds some great comic relief with his eating habits and other things he does. There is also an issue with a series of suspicious fires that draws Jack's attention over and over. I loved the way that he tried to figure out who it was. There were a couple of very interesting twists before that mystery was solved.

I always love any book in this series, but this one had something different about it. Maybe it was the focus on the crime side of the story and on the background Jake and Leah had together, but I just know this one was one for the books. Their chemistry was always sizzling and their problems and relationship was always growing and not all of a sudden jumping the shark. Incredible work by Jill Shalvis.

Always on My Mind by Jill ShalvisI love the Lucky Harbor series and am fortunate to be able to read this one in the series. This one is about Leah and she returned to the town to help her grandmother with driving her to daily rehab while baking at the local bakery. She is not allowed to say who wins the $100.000 and a bakery of their choice in any city. She also has let it slip out that Jack, the fireman is her boyfriend and their relationship is on again. Jake is a bit put out because they are not an item and he'd had dates lined up..Love catching up with the others in town. Jack and Leah have known each other since middle school and some in town have put pictures on Facebook and Pinterest of them. They agreed to have rules because they only wanted to make his mom happy with all she was going through and her grandmother also.Loved hearing of the techniques of fire fighting with safety measures at the highest level..Great Dane, Kevin often works his way in between them. Lots of 'f' bombs.Love the clues to the arsonist and the relationship the 3 women have and that Aubrey gets the next book. Free two chapter excerpt is included.I received this book from Net Galley via Grand Central Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

Really, Jill? You had me at this being a new Lucky Harbor book, but you then threw in Jack, a firefighter. A firefighter, Jill. But did you stop there? No. In gallops Kevin, the irresistible Great Dane. Add in a pastry chef and a friends to lovers theme, add in a dash of meddling seniors and you get one heck of a book. I loved it. This was only my second time reading a Lucky Harbor book, but I'm hooked. I want to visit this place and be friends with these people, to me that's the sure sign of a wonderful series. I've bought the first couple books in the series so that I could stay a little longer in this delightful coastal town and look forward to read Ben's story. Recommend to anyone looking for a romance that's just enough spice to be hot, but not overly graphic, as seems to be the trend now. Number eight in order, but can be read as a stand alone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Of course I'm going to like this book--it's Jill Shalvis. But while I usually like all her books, I've found them to be a little formulaic lately. And that's where this one really stood above the rest. There were different issues and circumstances that fell into play that I felt helped move this into something other than "just another Jill Shalvis book."

I really loved both characters, but especially Jack. I mean, who doesn't love a hot firefighter? And this storyline--the friends to more--is one of my all time favorite tropes, and I loved how Jill handled it.

It wasn't my favorite in the series, but in a series as solidly good as Lucky Harbor, I think that boils down more to characters and how you connect with them as a reader. Even though it wasn't my favorite, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and, of course, can't wait for the next (I hope Ben!) in the series.

Witty, sexy, and down right fun! Jill Shalvis’ newest Lucky Harbor book will have you hooked from start to finish. Leah Sullivan hasn’t had the best life in the world, and she’s got the self-esteem to go with it. The last place she wants to go is back home to Lucky Harbor. But when she drops out of school with one semester left to go and then blows her chance on a reality cooking show, she ends up back home running her grandmother’s bakery while her grandma recovers. Leah never perches anywhere for long, so she’s looking forward to heading out of town again, soon. Especially now that she’s gone and made things a little more complicated by telling the biggest “fib” of her life.Jack Harper is happy with his life, just the way it is. Lots of dates, no commitments and plenty of action at the local fire station. That is until Leah shows back up in town and tells his mom, and the rest of the town, that they are in a relationship. Jack can’t believe his luck that the sexy, girl of his dreams, has come back into town and proclaimed that they are together after leaving him with a broken heart so many years ago. Determined not to let Leah get to close, he agrees to the fake relationship for the sake of his mother’s health, only to find that keeping his distance from Leah is much harder than he thought it would be, especially since Leah seems determined to turn it into something more. As Leah and Jake begin to realize that their feelings for each other still run much deeper than friendship, Jake decides he wants more. But can he convince Leah that a life with him in Lucky Harbor is what she really wants or is she going to run away with his heart once again? This book is a MUST READ! I couldn’t put it down. I loved the sexy chemistry and unique past between Leah and Jake. And who can resist a story about a hot firefighter? Leah’s self-esteem issues make her character very realistic and leave you wanting her to finally see that she is deserving of a happy, love filled, stable life. The book was well written, the characters are well developed and the plot and action are fast-paced. I also enjoyed the bit of mystery involving the fires around town, it just helped to add another dimension to the story. Even though this book is Book 8 in the Lucky Harbor Series, this was my first book by Jill Shalvis and I could not tell that I had missed the other 7 books. It is a great stand-alone read, though I can’t wait to go back and catch up on this series! And sure enough, my TBR pile grew because I just had to go out and get the backlist for Jill Shalvis and start reading all of her previous novels. I must say I have officially turned into a fan and am in love with this series. What a great story told here. I love the whole childhood friend love story and this one fits to the par just right. The way she also works in the animals into these stories is also a very cute touch. The romance didn’t seem over the top and the chemistry between these two was palpable. I loved the bit of suspense Ms. Shalvis added in here. The entire story was gripping, hot, and more than steamy enough to leave me wanting more. I recommend not only this book, but the entire series to read!Five out of five stars.
