About this audiobook

Harlan Coben earned the raves of critics everywhere for his New York Times bestselling thriller, Tell No One, hailed as "pulse-pounding" (People), "compelling and original" (Los Angeles Times), and "a thriller of runaway tension" (Iris Johansen). Now, in a bold new novel, Coben continues to stake out new ground in suspense, unleashing a haunting tale of secrets and betrayal...and of one man's search for his missing brother that spirals into a breakneck hunt for a killer, a victim, and the truth.

As a boy, Will Klein had a hero: his older brother, Ken. Then, on a warm suburban night in the Kleins' affluent New Jersey neighborhood, a young woman--a girl Will had once loved--was found raped and murdered in her family's basement.

The prime suspect: Ken Klein. With the evidence against him overwhelming, Ken simply vanished, spending the next decade as the elusive subject of rumors, speculation, and an international manhunt. When his shattered family never heard from Ken again, they were sure he was gone for good.

Now eleven years have passed. And Will, who always believed in his brother's innocence, has found evidence that Ken is alive--even as he is struck by another act of betrayal. His girlfriend suddenly disappears, leaving behind compelling evidence that she was not the person Will thought she was. As two dark dramas unwind around him, Will is pulled into a violent mystery, haunted by signs that Ken is trying to contact him after all these years. Will can feel himself coming closer and closer to his brother . . . and to a terrible secret that someone will kill to keep buried. And as the lies begin to unravel, Will is uncovering startling truths about his lover, his brother, and even himself. He knows he must press his search all the way to the end. Because the most powerful revelations are yet to come....

Gone for Good is at once a powerhouse of suspense and a haunting tale of love--the love between brothers, between lovers, between family members. It is one of those rare thrillers that not only make the pulse pound, but stir the heart as well.

Another very enjoyable read from this master of the mystery genre, and plenty of twists - just when you think you've got all the twists, then comes another and another! 4 stars.

What a train ride! Just when you think you have it figured out, you are left second-guessing yourself. This is my favorite Harlan Coben book yet.

My first of many Coben books, and one of my favorites. A thoroughly twisted plot, backed up by some sympathetic, and some thoroughly weird, characters. I was so into it I couldn't put it down. You keep turning the pages to find out what happens next.

Will Klein is a social worker, whose life is a series of tragedies. His old girlfriend was brutally murdered, his brother accused and disappeared for the last 11 years, his mother succumbs to cancer, and his girl, Sheila Rogers, disappears and is feared dead. Will enlists the help of his friend, Squares and Katy Miller, his first love's young sister. He feels compelled to try to unravel what is happening, because the FBI and local law enforcement appear to be involved in a cover-up regarding his brother, Ken. Will encounters a lot of evil events in his search for Ken, a search that ends in a group encounter in the last chapter that has more plot twists and turns than I've ever seen.

It's Harlan Coben's original and marvelously well drawn cast of characters that makes this novel sparkle, and he is able to breathe life into even the most minor figures, and bring them to life on the page. Combined with a stunning climax that ties up all the loose ends, this is a great read for any mystery fan.

This was pretty much a waste of time, to be honest. I thought it sounded okay from the description and the first few pages were okay but it sort of just got pretty mediocre from there on.
The characters were dull. Will felt so incredibly generic- there was absolutely nothing making him a distinct or memorable character. It felt like I'd read about him ten times before- he was just very flat.
The story itself was all right but not enough to warrant four hundred pages. All the twists were really predictable and felt like the writer kept changing his mind about where he wanted the story to go.
Overall, not an interesting read and not one I would recommend.

When Will Klein's mother dies he discovers that his older brother, suspected of murdering Will's ex-girlfriend and long presumed dead, is alive. Then Will's fiancee disappears and Will is forced to face the truth of his past. With its twists and turns in the plot this is trademark Coben as he sets up and then destroys the reader's assumptions and is never predictable

Gone For Good by Harlan Coben is the story of Will Klein. He lost his older brother Ken at a young age, when Ken fled the family home after being accused of murdering Will's ex girlfriend Julie and was never heard from again. Eleven years on and Will's mother is losing a battle with a terminal illness and gives Will the news that his brother is still alive. His mother's death and her shocking revelation sets a number of events into motion. Will's girlfriend disappears and he begins to find out more about his brother Ken and the past he never new about. The best character in Gone For Good is undoubtedly Will's friend, Squares. Squares got his nickname after having his swastika - that was tattooed on his forehead in his misspent youth - tattooed into squares rather than removed, to remind him of his troubled past. Squares and Will both work at Covenant House, reaching out to homeless youths and trying to offer them a better future. Will believes his brother Ken is innocent, however he is torn between a love for his brother and doing the right thing. There is danger and tension throughout this thriller and a twist that caught me a little by surprise.

I have always like this author's books but I have to say that this one didn't come up to snuff as much as his others have. It's a good thriller with twists and turns but something was lacking I feel.Back Cover Blurb:As a boy, Will Klein had a hero: his older brother, Ken. This is the third of Harlan Coben's books that I've read. They've all been consistantly fast reads with entertaining plots. Although, there is often the plot twist you can see coming, there is just as often the unexpected twist. Well worth a look.

This is the story of Will Klein, who lost both his first love and his brother on the same day eleven years ago. His ex-girlfriend, Julie Miller was found brutally strangled, and his brother became the subject of an international manhunt accused of the crime. When his new girlfriend, Sheila, disappears too, Will starts to delve into the past, not always liking what he finds...This was not the sort of formulaic mystery story that I am used to. Usually, a body appears within the first chapter or so, there are various suspects and eventually the mystery is solved. In this book, it starts quite slowly, and reveals bit by bit the events of eleven years ago. Also, bodies don't really "appear" as such, as they are referred to instead. However, once I got used to Coben's style and the style of the book, it was actually very gripping, and there were so many twists and turns that I was left feeling very dizzy! Each time you thought you were close to the solution, things were turned upside down again so it certainly kept me kon my toes.Towards the end it became very exciting and I had to keep reading to the bitter end...

This was my first Harlan Coben book. It was amazing - I read it over a weekend and could not put it down. The characters are fantastic (I really like Squares) and every time you think you have it figured out things change. The ending was great. I will definitely read more by this author.

As with all Coben novels - I loved this one and all its twists and turns and I loved the epilogue on this. I truly hope to see Squares again, maybe in a Myron/Win novel. My only real dislike with this book, which I listened to in the audio format, was that it was read by Jonathan Marowz (who's read most of the Myron Bolitar books). It was difficult to seperate this book from one of the Bolitar series (which wasn't all bad), but Will Klein had the same sort of quick wit, one-liners, and vocabulary as Myron.

This is a can't-put-it-down thriller. This books has more twists and turns than any book I've read recently. Just when I thought I knew what was going on and had it figured out, the book turns around and goes in another direction. Not to mention that each character proves to be an enigma. Will is a kind-hearted soul and his family's past keeps rearing it's ugly head. He's in love with a woman who is not who he thinks she is, his brother is not who he thinks he is, and his past girlfriend is someone who surprises him continually until the end of the book. Even the true bad guys are a surprise. This is my favorite Harlan Coben book, hands-down.

This was really good. It started a little bit slow, but then once I got into it, I did not want to put it down. It is your basic murder mystery book, but there are so many twists and turns it kept me guessing right up to the end.

Great beach book. Lots of twists and turns, keeps you guessing right until the end. The hero, Will Klien, is a unlikely and unwilling hero; and he has a great sidekick in Squares, who has loads of 'street cred' and also happens to be a world famous Yoga instructor.

An appalling piece of trash. Gone for Good is an overwrought, cliche-ridden mess featuring implausible characters (especially the ex-Nazi KKK yoga instructor who also happens to be best buddies with every important person in the galaxy, and who saves homeless kids, too; I wish I were exaggerating, but if anything I'm understating the ridiculousness of this character; oh, and then there's 'the Ghost' [excellent creativity with the moniker, Harlan], a 'pale assassin' who's so utterly preposterous you won't be able to suppress your giggles, and, hey, I'd better get the hell out of this set of parentheses), a silly, 'here's something I made up I'll bet you never thought would happen' plot, and endless, excruciating passages about feelings. Just about every character in the book, especially the protagonist, spends loooong stretches crying, sniveling, moaning, holding someone desperately just to survive, and then bawling some more. I can't even begin to grasp the reasons for Coben's popularity.

What a discovery, Harlan Coben is definitely a writer I want to read more of. He plays with the assumptions 'trained thriller readers' have. Most writers play by the rules and you know there is going to be an unexpected ending, but Coben gives even this rule a twist. He really is a brilliant author.

One too many twists. I like when you don't know what is coming. Or you view a scene from the subject's eyes but you don't realize the subject's eyes don't see to clearly. Those moments are great in this book. BUT a few too many twists that didn't seem authentic and were only put in the book for the readers love of final twists.

Another fabulous non-series book from Coben. It truly deserves the cliché of page-turner. Missing people turn up. Dead people aren't dead. Live people aren't live and then are and then aren't. I can't figure out how he even keeps this all straight on the page, much less in his head. This is a must read.

Eleven years earlier, Will's older brother Ken became the prime suspect in the rape & murder of Will's ex-girlfriend. However, Ken disappeared before any arrest or conviction could take place, and he hasn't been seen since, leaving his family to suspect that he's likely dead. Now, as Will's mother lies on her deathbed, she alludes to the fact that Ken may be alive. Almost simultaneously, Will's current girlfriend disappears out of the blue. And so begins his quest to find answers to both disappearances, which oddly enough, are connected.I've read a few Harlan Coben thrillers and have enjoyed them for the most part. I read this one on audio, an abridged version, and as far as abridgments go, I felt that it captured the meat of the story, flowed well, and didn't feel too choppy. Several surprises and twists in this one, which made it enjoyable. Overall, a good story.
