About this audiobook

Determined to prove her worth as a budding archeologist, Ginesse Braxton vows to solve one of the world’s greatest mysteries—to find the location of the lost city of Zerzura. Unfortunately, no man dares take the risk of escorting the resolute young scholar across the open desert. But on her way to Egypt, Ginesse engages in a daring deception: She will switch places with Mildred Whimpelhall, who is traveling to meet her fiancé.

Cynical adventurer Jim Owen will do anything to escape the dark secrets of his troubled past. Betrayed by the woman he loved and scorned by proper society, he agrees to carry out a danger-fraught task: escort Mildred Whimpelhall across a lawless desert to her intended. But Jim is about to learn that “Mildred” isn’t exactly what she seems…and the dangers they face together are eclipsed by an even greater peril: falling in love, against all reason, with another guy’s bride.

What a wonderful historical romance! I loved the character of Ginesse. She is a trouble magnet, outspoken, and a closet penny novelist. She is also the daughter of two famous archaeologists and has six younger brothers. She is just returning to Egypt after spending some years in an English finishing school and attending university. She believes that she has discovered the location of a long-lost, ancient city and hopes finding it will make her feel worthy of her distinguished family. She knows that her family won't let her go off exploring on her own. So she switches places with a woman who is on her way to marry her fiance who just happens to be in command of a British fort right where Ginesse wants to be.The Colonel has provided an escort for his fiance in the person of Jim Owens who happens to owe him a favor. The Colonel saved Jim's life and left him indebted to him. While Jim is a shady character, he is determined to pay off his debt and escort the Colonel's fiance to him. However, Jim takes one look at Ginesse and is immediately attracted. The attraction only grows as he rescues her from a variety of perilous situations. Ginesse is also attracted to him or, at least, her perceived version of him. She sees him as a cowboy who is rough around the edges but has a core of honor.Jim is in Egypt to get lost. He is on the run from a home life that never made him happy or satisfied. He wants to be declared dead so that his beloved, younger, half-brother will inherit. But it turns out that his younger brother has other plans. He doesn't want Jim's inheritance and has been looking for him for two years. Also, he is an archaeologist that Ginesse worked for when she made her discovery. She thinks of him as a stuffy male who is trying to steal her discovery. He thinks he is in love with her.The story is filled with humor, misunderstandings, the failure of the hero and heroine to communicate, and some really hot romance. I got swept away in the story and finished it with a big smile on my face. I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys historical romances.

What a wonderfully exciting, adventurous, and romantic read! Ginesse Braxton is on a ship sailing to Egypt. The woman in the room next to her has been suffering terribly with sea sickness so Ginesse is in her room helping her as best she can. The woman, Mildred Whimpelhall, who is also headed to Egypt, is going there to be married to her long time fiancé, Colonel Lord Pomfrey. Mildred is so ill that Ginesse worries for the woman's life. Mildred confessed to Ginesse that she had fantasized about jumping ship, but so far had resisted. However, Mildred decided that she would leave the ship at their next port. Ginesse saw this as chance to advance her own travel plans, by using that Mildred would no longer require. She wrote the necessary letters and purchased the required tickets for Mildred. Ginesse found henna in with Mildred's belonging and kept this in order to dye her own hair red to make it easier to pass herself off as Mildred. Ginesse is the type person who attracts trouble and it starts immediately when she arrives at her initial destination and runs into people she knew from her childhood. Fortunately she was able to keep stress high so that she was not recognized as herself and was accepted as Mildred. The action begins almost immediately. Jim Owen has been sent by Mildred's fiancé to guide and protect her on her journey into Egypt to meet with and marry him. Jim has his own story that weaves its way into Ginesse's story with some surprising results. The main characters are fun with wonderful supporting characters. I loved the story and felt this was a well written book... easy to read and enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I could tell you to read this book for the fun adventure (think Indiana Jonesish or I guess nowadays people would think Nate Drake), Connie Brockway writing (effortlessly emotionally true, engaging, and always moving), or the characters (you’ll smile while weeping at how utterly crystal clear the hero sees the heroine’s authentic nature and is not afraid of it ;). However, the main reason you should read this book is for Chapter thirty-six. My god….chapter thirty-six. I didn’t realize how all the adventure, emotions, and feelings were working together to create such a scene, but my now overflowing heart is grateful. (sidenote: the um, action in Ch.36, I refuse to say more in order not to ruin it, is a tad similar and reminiscent of another book’s ending scene. Different setting but in the same idea, pulled me a little tiny bit out of the story as I thought back to that other book (I rated that book five stars, the only hint I’m giving) )

Read this book because there are sooooo many mediocre, regency ball saturated (I love this timeperiod! But I love took time, well written regency ball romances more) romance books out there that, trust me, you need to read this adventure romance where Brockway writes her characters so well they lose the title of character and become people (I hope you know what I mean) to cleanse your palate.

By the bye I didn’t rate this 5stars because there were tiny little slow moments and too many added in plot points (Brockway you had great characters you didn’t need the other hubbub of what turned out to be forgettable and pointless nemesis of Jim and the late love triangle), some instances where the actions/emotions were too similar to the prequel (I read the series back to back so it was fresh in my mind), and as much as I loved Jim and Ginny they didn’t quite have the superior spark that makes me want to read five star couples over and over.

Oh and you should read “As You Desire” prequel to this one so you fully understand why Ginesse is the way she is. Her parents Harry and Dizzy are the stars of that show.

Spunky young woman wants to go to Egypt and discover a lost tomb an seizes on the opportunity to change places with another woman on the boat from England who was traveling to meet her fiance. At the dock she was to be met and escorted to the fiance's army fortress (near her dig site), the guide had never met her and they started across the dessert bickering, getting into all sorts of trouble, falling in love and miscommunicating to each other.

I liked how three dimensional the characters were and Ginesse's endearing personality. I would have liked to learn more about Jim though. I felt like his relationship with his Grandmother and how he came to be in Egypt was a bit glossed over.I really liked the little tid bits of history and how the landscape was described to the reader but the description wasn't long and overdone. I recommend this book it was an enjoyable read.

The other guys bride, as the title suggest is a story of a guy who should protect and guide the bride to her rightful groom but unexpectedly falls in love with her in the process.I usually read historical romances set in a palace, a countryside, ballroom parties, and anything that suggest old-fashioned ways of romances—never thought I end up in Egypt!..:)…but absolutely I can say I enjoyed reading this book every bit along the way.I’d like to give kudos to the book for the cover, it isn’t by any means wonderful or anything, but there’s something in it that made me pause and sigh, the woman is amazingly beautiful there and-well, I just loved the cover! It’s quite fascinating to find myself in a quest for a lost-city in Egypt, and more, engage in a complicating romance between Ginesse and Jim,.. These 2 characters are annoying sometimes, but totally lovable..I find myself saying to both of them to finally wake up and be themselves..:D… The heroine is feisty, outspoken, stubborn and intelligent, and the hero is handsome, mysterious, independent, yup sexy..but both of them have one weakness in common, love, they live through their brains, but when they finally met, their hearts begin to take over, so, what more can you ask for?!…I enjoyed so much Ginesse’s character, she might not be a really wholesome woman in our society today, but she’s prank and the words that come out of her mind are both funny and real..:DI love the ending even though other readers said it’s unreal, but for me it’s not bad to believe that fantasies happen once in a while, Jim’s declaration of love is totally romantic… The Other guy’s bride is a well-researched tale of finding the lost city of Zerzura in Egypt with mistaken identities, adventure, hot romance, (witty and totally funny dialogues and realizations about love and life)… Read this book and be transported into a world of historical romance..:) highly recommended!

The Other Guy's Bride is the first book published by Montlake, an imprint of Amazon. Needless to say, I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book. Let me say that I was pleasantly surprised. The Other Guy's Bride is a lovely, romantic book where the characters and emotions were not surface-level but fully fleshed out and well-developed. Jim and Ginny do not rush into romance. They bicker, butt heads and overall annoy each other. But as they traverse across the desert, they continue to bicker, but the undercurrent of attraction starts to simmer. They both are hiding who they really are. Jim is running from his past and Ginny is trying to prove her worth as an archaeologist by posing as an engaged woman on her way to meet her fiancee. But despite their secrets, this doesn't stop Jim and Ginny from discovering what lies beneath. Despite his frustration with Ginny, Jim starts to love the spirited woman. He will do anything to protect and even though it pains him to do so, he will do anything to make sure she is delivered safely to her fiancee. Ginny has worked up in her mind that Jim is an outlaw cowboy and he does his best to prove her right. The Other Guy's Bride is a well-paced, romantic adventure. It reminded me of one of my favorite movies, The Mummy. The locations were described so well that I felt that I was there. The best part of the book was when Jim and Ginny would bicker. There were a lot of funny moments when Ginny would go toe-to-toe with not only Jim but anyone who would dare stand in her way. Jim and Ginny's journey to love was so romantic. This has to be the most romantic romance book I've read in a long time. The declaration of love and their feelings for each other was so poetic without being too sappy. For Jim to be such an "outlaw", he has such a way with words. He may not get it right the first, second or fifth time. But when he finally does, I sighed and swooned and held my hand to my heart. The Other Guy's Bride is a great romantic read. Jim and Ginny are great characters that I absolutely fell in love with. The pacing of the plot was done well although there were times where I was ready for the mistaken identity issue to be resolved. The use of Arabic terms slowed up my reading a little. I wish there was a diction at the beginning of the book for reference. I tried using the dictionary on my Kindle and even Kindle couldn't come up with any definitions for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am so mad that it took me so long to read it! I kept letting life get in the way. But once I sat down and fully committed to finishing it, I was hooked! The Other Guy's Bride is book 2 of a series. Book 1 is about Ginny's parents. I need to buy that book now! I am definitely planning on reading more works written by Connie Brockway. Oh! And the best thing about The Other Guy's Bride, there's an epilogue! I am a sucker for epilogues. It perfectly wraps up the story while giving us confirmation that the H/H truly have their HEA.

Reviewed by JenReview ARC provided by Nancy Berland Public RelationsWhen I learned that Amazon was starting their own publishing company, Montlake Publishing, and their debut novel was going to be from Connie Brockway, I was intrigued. And then I was asked to review The Other Guy's Bride and I was honored to be asked. What really stood out to me is the setting for this book. It mostly takes place in 1905 Egypt. What a unique setting. And Ms Brockway takes total advantage of it. Ginesse and Jim are trekking across the dessert, encounter native tribes and exploring ancient ruins. I enjoyed the adventure I was taken on throughout this book. And then there is the romance. I wasn't sure how it was going to work when Ginesse assumed another person's identity (read the blurb, I'm not giving anything away). The other woman is engaged to be married and Jim has been hired to escort her to her fiancee. Jim is torn between his attraction to this woman and his honor as a gentleman. I enjoyed the inner turmoil both Ginesse and Jim battled with as it added another layer to this book. My only complaint is that I really would have liked it to be a little longer. The end was a little too tidily wrapped and an it felt a little abrupt to me (not the epilogue but the story itself). But that aside, I really did enjoy this book and I can't wait to see what other books Montlake releases.
