About this audiobook

Mike Boudreaux, as a trauma surgeon Chief of Service, must discipline an impaired surgeon for performing unnecessary and dangerous surgery for the obese. He is Boudreaux's former teacher and mentor, and Boudreaux falls in love with his young, beautiful, New Orleans-socially-prominent wife. Boudreaux cannot hide the adulterous affair that erodes his career authority and reputation. Family and society reject the woman he loves unconditionally; when she moves in with Boudreaux, her rebellious daughter disappears. As Boudreaux tries to retrieve and convince the daughter to support her mother, the jealous husband's surgical career declines; a young patient dies; the public is outraged. The crazed husband blames his wife and Boudreaux for his decline and threatens violent revenge. The couple plans marriage and strains to regain pride and confidence amidst the hostility of accusatory taunts of friends, family and society.

Not what I had expected but enjoyed listening to it

This book is a total snore! The plot is all over the place and there are no segways nor is there any suspense at all. I'm half way through the book and nothing has happened yet. Also the author reading the book just makes it worse. The voice is monotone and drones on and on which causes the listener to just tune it out. Don't spend your money on this book.

Note: Received in Goodreads First Reads giveaway

This book wasn't really my cup of tea. I'd read a couple pages here and there, but otherwise I just didn't really want to pick it up after putting it down. I just couldn't get into the story. I did finish it, and getting to the end didn't really make me like it any more than when I was halfway through it. I guess I'm not headed to becoming a surgeon for a reason? Definitely a PCP sort of person. Also not a big fan of watching the ruin of someone's life. Again, not my cup of tea.

I received this book free as a Goodreads, First-Reads giveaway. It pains me when I receive a free book from an author and have to give it less than 3 stars, and this is no exception. Oh how I wanted to like this book, but in the end I decided that it just wasn't for me. It was just okay, and I found myself wanting to finish it out of a feeling of obligation rather than enjoyment. Now don't get me wrong, it started out a little interesting. A Surgeon's mentor is botching surgeries on obese patients and he is reluctant to pursue action because of their relationship and his sense of loyalty to his friend and colleague. That was one part of the story. The other part centers around the negligent surgeon's family dynamic and how his neglected wife falls for his same friend and colleague. The problem I had with the second part of the storyline is that it wasn't very convincing to me. The love story didn't really develop in a way that I could accept it as truly occurring. One minute they just knew each other and the next minute they were in love. Also, I really disliked the extreme waves of profanity in the book. Anyone who knows me knows that I feel that a good book does not need a lot of cursing in it to improved it's readability. Instead of adding to it it takes away from it, and this was my experience with reading this book. I've read excellent books with little or no profanity, and not so great books with an unnecessary amount of swearing. Overall I didn't particularly enjoy this book and thus can't recommend it, however, I can't say that someone else might not somehow appreciate it.
