About this audiobook

As a new witch-not to mention owner of Savannah's most enchanting bakery-Katie Lightfoot is still getting used to casting spells, brewing potions, and mastering her magical powers. But that doesn't mean she can't find time to enjoy a picnic with firefighter Declan McCarthy . . . until she stumbles upon a corpse.

The dead man's tattoo reveals he was a member of a secret society-and it turns out he's missing an object that was very important to the group. When Katie learns the killer was after more than the man's life, she and her Aunt Lucy leave the baked goods on the rack to cool and set off in hot pursuit of a killer.

As I said in my review for the first book, I'm probably not the best person to review this book. I don't usually read cozies, but a friend pressed this series upon me, so I here I go again.I still liked the bakery and the scenes about baking, probably because I like to bake myself. I wish there was more of this. The story veers off into what I would call paranormal urban fantasy, with the introduction of druids and evil spells. But the author knows nothing of actual druids, or their methods of worship and spirituality, so this was disappointing. As before, the characters were all very flat, there were a lot of them, and I had trouble remembering who was who. I can't keep track of the women in the coven. They all seem alike except for very surface level differences.Again, very little sense of place.Love triangle is still irritating and unrealistic.I should just give up on these, because they just aren't my cup of tea...

This was a lot edgier then the first book in this series and I recommend reading this to fans of Kim Harrison's Hollow series. If you are a fan of the Hollow's I'd recommend skipping book 1 and reading this right off, then if you like this and want a lighter more introductory story then try book 1 which I also enjoyed.

Do not read this if you are on a anti baked good diet. The bakery is at the center of this fun little mystery series and the delights are in mouth watering detailed. This is the series you either break down and hit the local bakery or you put on your apron and make your own, no worries recipes are included. ; p I'm a sucker for bakery settings. I went the bake it myself route, mmmmmmm. The biscotti was scrumptious dipped in my coffee. The characters make this series a double winner for me. There are quirky witches, wicked witches, druids, wicked druids, sexy firemen, sexy/funny/wicked non magical people, cute animals, and maybe more. They have a history, well developed and written just right for this reader. (doesn't go on forever and ever) The mystery is mysterious and leads into deeper waters, dark and deadly. Who doesn't love that right ? It's not a slam dunk one step easy breezy solve mystery.I can't tell you anything that happens, it would ruin it for you. If you enjoy a cozy mystery, witches, love triangles and flakey baked goodies you may want to give it a try.

A really interesting read. This is the second book in the series and a bit of an intriguing surprise. I figured this series would be a bit light and fun and well, maybe fluffy. But this book has me thinking not-so-much - the magic goes a bit deeper and a bit darker, making me think that this series will turn out to be delightfully complex instead.

The murder plot itself was fairly obvious to me - the culprit stuck out like a sore thumb, but it didn't detract at all from the book (this is a relief, as I seem very good at guessing the bad guys) or my enjoyment of it. I loved reading about the characters and learning more about them. The interplay between Katie and Steve is electric, but Declan is just as worthy - I hope the author can find a balance between these three that works without a stupid love-triangle-who-is-she-going-to-choose thing developing. The Savannah setting is absolutely perfect for a story like this, less obvious than New Orleans but just as appropriate.

Overall, a really great story and a really enjoyable read. I am so looking forward to the next book.

B, B, and B is the second in A Magical Bakery Mystery series by Bailey Cates.

This is a very enjoyable series that doesn't delve deeply in magic, ghosts or witches. I feel it is just enough to make for and interesting story and food for thought.

Katie Lightfoot and Declan McCarthy, along with Mungo(her familiar) are having a delicious breakfast picnic at the park when it is ruined by the discovery of a dead man. She sees a tattoo on the dead mans arm that appears to be tied to witchcraft. Katie soon contacts Steve Dawes, who is a witch himself, and learns that the man is a member a secret society which has ties to witchcraft. Steve knows the group and warn Katie to not go looking into the group. But having found the dead man, this is not something she can do.

It is soon learned that a book called Spell Of Necretius is missing form the dead man's library. The book contains a spell that can summon a very dark spirit. add to this, some pumpkins fell off a balcony, narrowly missing Katie and an episode where spirits had gotten into her mind, convinces her to get help from the spellbook club.

Very exciting book and delicious sounding recipes are included.

    Looking forward to book three.

This continues the story of Katie Lightfoot as she continues to learn of her witchcraft powers. Another murder has occurred and she has found the body. She learns that druids are in Savannah and it involves Steve. She also learns more of her powers. Good read. I liked this better than Brownies and Broomsticks, book 1 of the series. Here Katie is becoming more comfortable with herself. There is still the romance triangle of Katie, Steve, and Declan. We also learn more about the coven Katie belongs to. Good follow-up.

Wonderful! Loved it! The pacing was spot on, the characters were vibrant, and the story was interesting. I really enjoy the hedgewitchery tidbits, giving the reader a glimpse into a magical world that is accessible and fun for the average human. Even though I guessed who the villain was as soon as this character was introduced it was still incredibly fun to race to the end to see if I was correct. (which I was ~ go me!) I can't wait for the next installment!!

BEWITCHED, BOTHERED AND BISCOTTI by Bailey Cates was a great Savannah mystery. Katie Lightfoot had recently discovered she was a witch and it ran in the family. She owned a bake shop and the customers get more then just cinnamon in their biscotti. The baked goods were baked with love and magic. While on a date with one of the two men in her life, Katie discovered a dead body, but this was no ordinary dead body. The man had a strange tattoo that Katie felt odd about as soon as she saw it. That was when things began to get even more interesting. A lot of new people in town, more murders and talk of a druid clan running the streets of Savannah. This was a nice mystery and I enjoyed the talk of baking in the book. I was thrilled to find recipes for the famous cola cake that was featured in the book. I will definately be baking that soon.Rating: 4Heat Rating: sweetReviewed By: RaeMy Book Addiction And More

I liked it. Not as much as I liked the first one, and I can't quite put my finger on why. I did really enjoy it, though! Great, easy read, good story, well executed. Nice twist at the end that made me feel like "well of course! Why didn't I see that coming?!" So that was nice.

And I didn't find out until today that the same author also writes as Cricket McRae. Bonus! I love those books, too.

The only thing that really bothered me about the book is (and this is stupid -- and it bothered me in the first book, too) what the dog eats. I found myself cringing every time the dog ate food loaded with onions and garlic, and at the mention that he also liked raisins. I realize the dog is not exactly a "normal" dog, but it still made me wince.

Read for Fun (Paperbook)Overall Rating: 4.00Story Rating: 4.25Character Rating: 3.75Just doing a book shout-out for this one! Some Notes:*Thought the love triangle was distracting toward the end (especially given the guys can't stand each other). She should just let one of them go.*Loved the darker mystery*Loved getting to know more about the spellbook club*Loved how the characters are growing with each book*Katie is still growing on me. I think I will like her better when she quits playing with the two guys. If she truly loves her life as a singleton then she needs to embrace that. I think this triangle bugs me because she knows the two guys can't stand each other.*Still love the dog!*Love her neighbor!*Love the introduction of the new detective.

I finished reading 'Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti' the other night. I got bogged down in the middle and set it aside for a while, but once I picked it back up I couldn't put it down again. I had already figured out 'Who dun it' before I have very many chapters into the book, but there were enough twists and turns to make me doubt myself.I am looking forward to the next offering by Bailey Cates. I can hardly wait to be back with my fictional friends in Savannah.

BEWITCHED, BOTHERED, AND BISCOTTI is the second book in the Magical Bakery Mystery series, and I enjoyed it even more than the first.Katie Lightfoot is settling in as co-owner of Honeybee Bakery in Savannah, and getting used to her new found magical powers. While having a lovely breakfast picnic in the park, Katie and Declan (one of her two love interests) find a dead body. The deceased man's mysterious tattoo fascinates Katie, and with help from her other love interest, Steve, she finds out he belonged to a super secret group of powerful (and misogynistic) druids. She also learns that the man's killer may be planning something darker and more dangerous when some important books from his library go missing.Katie and the witchy ladies from the Spellbook Club reluctantly join forces with the devious druids to catch the killer. The mystery in this book was a bit darker and more complex than the first book, and it really drew me in. Magic in this story was explored on a deeper level as well, though Katie used her smarts, not magic, to figure out the culprit. The Declan-Katie-Steve love triangle continues, and Katie doesn't seem any closer to deciding who she wants most, though readers get to learn much more about Steve in this book. (I'm really liking Steve.) BEWITCHED, BOTHERED, AND BISCOTTI is a must read for fans of paranormal cozy mysteries. I can't wait for the next in the series! 4½-stars!Review copy courtesy of the publisher.
