About this audiobook
At first the cops had little to go on, a paycheck stub from Starlight Productions, a matchbook from the Edgewater Inn. Oh, and a body. Definitely male and decidedly dead, covered with strange little puncture wounds. Then they showed Beaumont what they had found in the blackberry bush. A woman’s cobalt blue shoe with a five-inch stiletto heel caked with blood and hair. “We have a bingo,” the cop said. Detective J.P. Beaumont had his corpse. He had his murder weapon. Now all he had to do was fill the shoe with a woman.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Standard hard boiled detective story I read since the author was visiting the library. Gritty, and I liked how the attention to little details and old fashioned research won the day.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A body is found with strange puncture wounds on his forehead. Detective Beaumont’s investigation leads him on a merry chase that involves a beautiful woman - no surprise there. Drugs are involved, and it doesn’t take Beau long to realize that someone has been set-up to take the fall for the murder. Finding the evidence to clear her takes a bit longer. This may not be great literature, but it is a fast read and entertaining. I find the character of Beau’s partner to be quite interesting, and this story leaves me wondering what the future holds for him.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5What fun it was to go into the past of J. P, Beaumont. Life doesn't change much; murder, drugs. But OMG no cell phones and using cassette tapes, how funny. This was brought back because it will tie into her newest Beaumont book. I love this series. He's such a great guy but with all the normalcy of all of us who do embarassing things. Yeah ok he drives a Porsche so he's not quite like us but I love his heart. This was a fast read and a fun time.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Another well-written episode in the life of J P Beaumont, hard drinking Seattle homicide detective. Good police procedural. I've read others in the series, so this was a fill in. It's interesting to come back and see this earlier offering. Jance has gotten better in later books, and Beau has certainly grown up. Still a good read with an interesting case.
