About this audiobook

In Northern California two successful CEOs are both indispensable to their growing companies' futures. Both are brilliant at the power game. But the difference between them is huge. One is a man, the other a woman. In this riveting novel, Danielle Steel explores what that means as she takes readers into the rarefied world of those at the pinnacle of international business and reveals the irrevocable choices they make, what drives them, and how others perceive them. The heady drug of power impacts everything they do.

Power Play

Even though Harvard-educated Fiona Carson has proven herself under fire as CEO of National Technology Advancement, a multibillion-dollar high-tech company based in Palo Alto, California, she still has to meet the challenges of her world every day. Devoted single mother, world-class strategist, and tough negotiator, Fiona weighs every move she makes, and reserves any personal time for her children. Isolation and constant pressure are givens for her as a woman in a man's world.

Miles away in Marin County, Marshall Weston basks in the fruits of his achievements. At his side is his wife, Liz, the perfect corporate spouse, who has gladly sacrificed her own law career to raise their three children and support Marshall at every step. Smooth, shrewd, and irreproachable, Marshall is a model chief executive, and the power he wields only enhances his charisma and is his drug of choice. And to maintain his position, he harbors secrets that could destroy his life at any moment. His world is one of high risks.

Like many women in her position, Fiona has sacrificed her personal life for her career, while Marshall dances dangerously close to the edge and flirts with scandal every day. Both must face their own demons, and fight off those who are jealous of their success. Their lives as CEOs of major companies come at a high price. And just how high a price are they willing to pay? Who are they willing to sacrifice to stay on top? Those they love, or themselves?

Danielle Steel's gripping, emotionally layered novel explores the seductive and damaging nature of power. Success and greed, trust and deception, love and loss-all come to a head in this compelling drama of family, careers, infidelity, and the sacrifices some people make to hold on to power…or to let it go.

Story of lies and romance in the corporate world. Good five CDs, good for drive home from NC. I thought it was good til disc 5. The author seemed to just want to get it over with. The ending was anti-climatic. I would have put more angst and confrontation into the finale.

Power Play by Danielle Steel Alternating chapters as the story follows each family and their daily lives as they go through business and family events.Phoeona, single has proven herself. Marshall is married and has a livid past that may catch up with him.Two CEO's kids have started dating and the story follows the rifts as events from their past come to the forefront.Thought this would be a her life as a CEO and his life as a CEO and they are the complete opposites and I thought it'd be pretty predictable.Glad there are so many twists and turns and then some as things settle down.. Few characters, very easy to keep track of, love small details.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

It never dawned on her what it was like being a mother, and the kind of things you worried about, or imagined, or how many things could go wrong, really bad ones. It was Fiona's job to be aware of all those things, and be ready to spring into action when necessary, like the Red Cross or the fire department.Usually when I type 'power play' I'm talking about hockey, but now I'll be talking about another one of my loves, books. This is the first book by Danielle Steel that I've read and the only reason why I read it is because my mother checked it out from the library with my card so I figured I might as well read it too. Despite being annoyed by certain characters I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and how much I wanted to follow these characters' lives.I really enjoyed that this book highlighted women in various roles; Fiona, a CEO of a big coporation, Lily, a coporate wife, and Alyssa, a single mother for most of the week. I really became interested in the lives of all three of the women. At times I was annoyed with some of them but I was still interested in where they would eventually end up. I was really happy with how they all ended up in the end.I hated Marshall Weston, he was a jerk. I don't want to give too much away but he was just so selfish and treated everyone like garbage. Quite frankly I feel like he ended up in a place that was too good for him at the end. At times he made me not want to continue on with reading this book but I was too interested in everyone else's lives to not finish reading this book.Overall I felt like this was an interesting and enjoyable read. I managed to finish it during an afternoon and was satisfied by the ending.

This was such a great I always really enjoy Daniel steel.

The Marshall Western character made me so angry at times.
Throughout the whole book he was walking around with a sense of entitlement.

Power play really does a good job of bringing out a human issue, that we are all so afraid to talk about.

In the end the Marshall Western character loses everything.

But then she begins to bring it back towards the end of the book. I would have changed the ending.

In my view Marshall Weston Marshall Weston deserves nothing.

He is forced to face consequences of his actions.

Even after losing everything he learns nothing.

He doesn't try to change. The book ends with him starting the whole cycle all over again.

“Power Play”, by Danielle Steel is nothing short of entertaining, exciting with quite a few twists and turns throughout the book. The book focuses on the lives of two CEO's, both successful in playing the power card in their own way. Fiona Carson a divorcee uses power to push harder each day in a male dominated business world. She tries hard to have a balance of work and spending time with her children. Marshall Weston is also very successful with a beautiful wife who goes out of her way to impress his clients. Marshall holds a secret that has the potential to change the lives of many. The author does a great job at making both characters very likable. The author is known for romance in her books and she doesn't disappoint with romance in this book either. I would recommend this book it is an easy read and entertaining.

AUTHOR: Steel, DanielleTITLE: Power PlayDATE READ: 05/11/14RATING: 4.5/B+GENRE/PUB DATE/PUBLISHER/# OF PGS: Fiction/2014/Random House/499 pgs LP SERIES/STAND-ALONE: SATIME/PLACE: Present/ CACHARACTERS: Fiona Carson/ CEO of National Technology Advancement; Marshall Weston/CEO of UPIFIRST LINES: " Fiona Carson left her office w/ the perfect amount of time to get to the boardroom for an important meeting." COMMENTS: Are men and women CEO's different? In this story they most certainly are. Fiona is a CEO of a large tech company in Northern California. She is a Harvard graduate and mother of 2 college age children. She is divorced - her former husband wanted someone more domestic and not such a powerhouse in the boardroom. She has been single for 7-8 years and likes that way. Her focus is on her career and her children -- she's very happy with this status. The occasional blind date has been less than satisfying. She's accepted that her life is full and complete as is and she doesn't need a romantic relationship…after all, she was a failure in her marriage. Her older sister is a psychologist especially interested in the differences between men and women CEO's and is convinced that Fiona could lighten up have more fun in her life, even tho' she readily admits she's not cut out for the family life for herself. Fiona eventually meets a journalist and they become friends. At this point she is willing to have a friend but not sure about anything else . Fiona's story is juxtaposed against that of Marshall Weston -- the man who has it all (and then some!). Marshall is an uber successful businessman w/ a supportive wife and 3 children. He plays golf on the weekends w/ Int'l clients and his wife entertains their wives. Everything seems perfect. So perfect he feels he can get away w/ another life in LA 2-3 days a week. He is involved w/ a younger woman who he has 7-yr-old twins w/. The younger woman knows about his other life but his wife of 30+ years is totally unaware of what really happens in LA every week. Marshall feels he is entitled to both his wife & his mistress and everything should be fine as long as he hides it all from his wife. He keeps promising the younger woman that he will eventually marry her when his daughter graduates from high school in the next 2 yrs. When his company finds out about his double life… he is forced to make a decision…

This is the third book in the “Kingdom Keepers” series, and it definitely made up for my feelings about the last one. The kids are suddenly faced with several other Disney Villians, who have made themselves into Holograms as well, therefore becoming more dangerous and capable of being anywhere at any time. The Villains also learned how to control the Virtual Network, and are casting the kids under spells to pit them against each other. There wasn’t much of working through puzzles by riding the rides and such (which is what I really enjoyed about the first book), but they’re learning that the good characters are on their side and even get help from some of them, which is really fun to read. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next, as this had a huge cliffhanger ending.

Ridely Pearson does it again! In the forth volume of the Kingdom Keepers series, the Overtakers have framed Wayne and his daughter, Wanda, and are (again) attempting to overtake Disney. With added villans such as Frollo, Cruella de Ville and the Evil Queen, and the added romance, the series deepens. The Keepers are teenagers, so the romance lines humanized the series.

The line between good and evil has blurred and it's now unclear whose side has the power. In the fourth installment of the Kingdom Keepers, things get intense. The Kingdom Keepers must now work double time to stop the evil Overtakers from gaining control of the parks. Except that now, there are a few frustrating set backs. Can I just say that when I saw Power Play on the shelf at the bookstore, I ran over to it, raised it up as if it were some kind of lost treasure, and then shamelessly did my happy dance. Sadly, there weren't any people near to witness it. I know, I've told this story to a couple of people already, but hey, it never gets old, because if you haven't guessed already, I'm a totally crazy Kingdom Keepers fan. I could just go the whole day talking about it.Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play was everything I expected and a whole lot more. I more than loved reading how the Keepers' characters developed. I especially loved reading more about Willa Angelo, because I've been wanting more of her ever since I first read about her. The Keepers were working as a team, more than ever, and I may not have been the only one who wanted to see this happen. Their friendship and relationship grew to a point where they were closely bonded. That was enough to make my heart burst.Oh but it didn't stop there. As if my silent prayers were answered, romance found it's way into the series and sparked. You have no idea how many times I squealed when I read all those Willby and Finmanda moments. I would like to say it's flawless but I have to agree with a friend of mine; the romance between Willa and Philby seemed so sudden as if it appeared out of nowhere—except if you looked closely there were hints at a possible relationship between these two. New book, new characters, Cruella de Vill, the Evil Queen, and Judge Frollo are just a few of the new baddies added to the series (not to mention the green-eyed kids). Holy whoa, did these Overtakers bring it on. Ridley Pearson, you brought excitement, thrill, and total fangirl/boy-ness up a hundred notches. Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play was EPIC. Ridley, you just amazed me with the irresistible humor and the full on electrifying action. I love the Kingdom Keepers more than ever, and I'm anticipating to see what you'll do with the fifth installment currently named, Kingdom Keepers VI: Shell Game. I've got a challenge for you, how much more epic and awesome can you get with this series?Big, crazy, Kingdom Keepers fan here, so here comes the plug: For all those Kingdom Keepers fans, check out the deviantART Kingdom Keepers group, DHIKingdomKeepers, for fan art and stories, news and updates, and meet awesome new people who love the series as much as you do.
