    David Eddings was born in Washington State in 1931 and grew up near Seattle. He graduated from the University of Washington and went on to serve in the US Army. Subsequently he worked as a buyer for the Boeing company and taught college-level English. His first novel was a contemporary adventure, but he soon began a spectacular career as a fantasy writer with his bestselling series ‘The Belgariad’.

      Demon Lord of Karanda is the third book in The Malloreon by David Eddings. The quest continues! More has been revealed about their journey. It seems the prophecy may require an Angarak king be in attendance as well as some sort of "sacrifice." It's obvous now how Zandramas plans to use Garion's son, making it more important for the party to rescue him. If only Zakath, Emperor of Mallorea, could be reasoned with to let them continue onwards. Urvon, in his effort to make a play for the Sardion, has summoned demons let them loose on the countryside, making the race to the Place Which Is No More even more hazardous. As if things could not get worse, a plague has struck the city where the party is being held, effectively sealing everyone in the city. And the Seeres of Kell has revealed that time is starting to run out if they hope to complete the prophecy of Light.The pace picks back up in this one as our heroes must stop and over come many challenges. Eddings writes some pretty good action scenes. This is the book where the new party members, Sadi, Velvet and Toth, really feel like they're a part of things, each with their own role to play and not just replacements for those people we're missing from the first series. The character banter continues to be fun, though is toned down in the second half of the book where events become a tad more serious. The world building continues as the party goes much farther into the Mallorean continent than experienced previously. I almost wish I could visit Mal Zeth - just without the plague.

      Up until now the majority of these books have taken place in the West, or very briefly, in the lands of the Angoraks but with this book, we wenter the lands of the Malloreans, who share the eastern continent and who have their own civilisation. Various adventures ensue as the party find themselves captured by an emperor, chased by demons and a mad disciple, whilst still trying to run down Zandramas, the kidnapper of Garion's son, himself fated to become the new Dark Lord should things go wrong...

      Amusing in places, quite readable, jogs along nicely. It does have another example of that annoying brogue that Eddings seems to like to have at least one or two characters speak in per book, unless that's just my bad luck in recent reads.

      Belgarion and company continue their quest to rescue Geran from Zandramas. However, prophecy is forcing the group to complete very specific tasks before the final encounter between Belgarion and Zandramas can occur.This book fell kind of flat fore me. A majority of the novel is spent "wandering" the country side to fulfill elements of prophecy, There are some great battles and the characters continue to be interesting, but I am ready to fast forward to the final confrontation.

      The banter is starting to wear thin, the tension is beginning to sag and the sense of tension inherent in the story is dissipating fast in the face of a great deal of unnecessary padding. More than half this book could easily disappear with no impact whatsoever on the plot or characterisation.

      This book picks up right where book 3 left off. Same characters, same mission, though in different countries, and with new people to meet. Its still not quite obvious what's going to happen, which keeps this interesting enough to read, and Eddings is still developing the characters. As the middle book of a 5 book series, this one manages to hold up better than most.

      This entire series is wonderful. One of the earlier "young boy discovers that he's more than he was led to believe" stories. A classic in the fantasy genre that pulls you into a great read.

      Another reread in the Mallorean series. There was not as much interaction with my favorite characters in this episode. But there was a lot of action to keep the story going. A lot more clues were revealed about the purpose of the quest and a few more important characters were introduced.
