About this audiobook

The How to Train Your Dragon series chronicles the adventures and misadventures of Viking underdog Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and his dragon, Toothless.

In Book 9, a dragon rebellion is coming – filled with the meanest, nastiest dragons in the Archipelago. Razor-wings, Tonguetwisters, and Vampire Ghouldeaths are attacking Vikings and seem to be seeking one soul in particular: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third! Only a King can save them...and only a champion with all of the King's Lost Things can be King.

In his adventures, Hiccup has collected quite a few "things" himself. But can a scrawny Viking save the entire Archipelago from certain doom? To find out, Hiccup will have to outwit a witch, fight his arch-enemy, and beat back an army of bloodthirsty dragons with just one sword.

Review is for the audio book as read by David Tennant. We jumped in at book 9 having only seen the movies before (book 9 was the only available volume at the library when we needed an audio book), but aside from a few minor plot points I was able to follow along without any troubles.Fast-paced and character building, the book is filled with humor even in the darkest of events.

The vikings are at it again with a needlessly dangerous rite of passage. Hiccup and friends will have to climb up a sheer cliff and engage in a huge sword fight to determine the next King of the Wilderwest. But things get unexpectedly worse when an army of dragons begins attacking. It seems that the dragon rebellion is on and the vikings are faced with the prospect of losing their dragon slaves or fighting an impossible war with terrible odds.Worse yet, Alvin the Treacherous is back with his witch mother and the pair of them are scheming to make Alvin the new king. Hiccup will need the help of all his friends to survive this adventure!

A dragon rebellion is coming and the vikings need a champion to be King, but becoming a champion is a perilous task. This is a wonderful children's series and one I enjoy even though I'm slightly above the intended reader age. The characters are quirky and the adventures outlandish and David Tennant is the fantastic narrator that brings it all to life in the audio versions.

This is the book where the Dragon Furious returns to start the Dragon Rebellion and attempt to destroy all humans. Hiccup finds the Crown of the Wilderwest, and wins the sword fighting competition to become the King of the Wilderwest. The part where the final battle is with his own father is brilliantly poignant. Just when it looks as though things are working out, it is revealed that Hiccup bears the Slavemark, and he is sent into exile, hunted by the Dragon rebellion, and Alvin the Terrible becomes King of the Tribes of the Wilderwest. It is a very bleak note to end on...
