I've read current books on raising children both Christian and non-Christian based. All have something to offer, but this has been by far the most instructive, encouraging and hope filled piece of writing regarding trying to raise hard kids. I'll be coming back to this often and recommend other do too.

Awful book. Some very old fashioned views of parenting and not the modern solution to an age old problem I was hoping for. Condones homophobia, spankings and chastisement of a child. Some of the acta it outlines are actually illegal in may countries outside of the USA. Very religious bias throughout the book and no social or behavioural scientific basis for the advice given. The resounding message this book sends seems to be - stick to you guns, they'll turn out alright in the end and if they don't... you did your best so it's all fine anyway. Sadly, as an audio book this has not only wasted my time listening to it but doesn't even serve me well as a paperweight too.

This book is based on an outdated authoritarian parenting style that is harmful to a child on every level.

This man is homophobic and supports corporal punishment. I can’t imagine a worse guide for raising your child.

I was not too impressed with this book. Maybe I was expecting too much of an innovative solution to dealing with strong-willed children, but this was a lot of common sense stuff that most parents that are working at being good parents already know: consistency, training, etc. Certainly I agree with a lot of the suggestions here, but I also thought this book was way long for the amount of actual substance. About three chapters could have covered it.
