Deskripsi

When Alice TodHunter Moon was five years old, she saw a beautiful golden Dragon Boat fly over her PathFinder village. She knew at once that the boat was Magykal.

That was years ago, before her mother died, her father disappeared at sea, and the Garmin took her best friend, Ferdie.

Now it's up to Tod and Ferdie's brother Oskar to rescue Ferdie from the Garmins' keeper, the malevolent Lady. Their journey takes them to the Castle, where they receive help from ExtraOrdinary Wizard Septimus Heap and ex–ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand.

But the Lady's brother, the Darke sorcerer Oraton-Marr, has a plan that will put everyone Tod holds dear in danger. To save her people, Tod must embrace her identity as a PathFinder and navigate the Ancient Ways, mysterious Magykal paths leading to unfamiliar—and sometimes dangerous—lands.

Taking place seven years after the story arc of the original bestselling Septimus Heap series, PathFinder celebrates the joy of discovering one's own personal Magyk and of choosing the path that lets that Magyk flourish and grow.

Angie Sage has added a new character to the Septimus Heap Saga. Perfect for both established fans of the Septimus Heap series and readers coming to the world of Septimus Heap for the first time, PathFinder is the first book in the Septimus Heap spin-off series, TodHunter Moon.Taking place seven years after the events of the original Septimus Heap series, PathFinder tells the story of Alice TodHunter Moon, a young PathFinder who leaves her seaside village in search of her friend Ferdie. Rumor has it that Ferdie has been taken by mysterious creatures called Garmin under orders from the malevolent Lady. Full of humor and heart, PathFinder introduces a new cast of young characters--and a new kind of Magyk. All the beloved characters from Septimus Heap are here, too--Tod receives help from ExtraOrdinary Wizard Septimus Heap, Ex-Extraordinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, and Alchemist Simon Heap. A fun addition to any fantasy reader's library.

Read this aloud to my daughter. She said she wanted to rate it a thousand stars.

Oh, how I've missed the world of Septimus Heap!

At first I found the story a bit hard to get into, as I didn't recall anything about PathFinders in the original series. But once Tod crossed paths with a few familiar characters, I knew I couldn't wait to find out how her world would intersect with Septimus's.

I loved getting the chance to revisit some beloved characters (now a few years older), but I also appreciated getting to know some new ones. And I'm so glad that the main character this time is a young girl, instead of a boy. I read tons of young adult and adult urban fantasy with strong female leads, but boys still seem to dominate the middle-grade fantasy world.

I particularly appreciate how Sage managed to blend in some of my favorite elements from the original series with new elements that kept the story feeling "fresh" and not like a rehash. I don't know how well the story would stand "alone" (for those who've never read the Septimus Heap series), but fans of the series will most likely enjoy this story and be eager for more.

Pathfinder is a magical fantasy novel for children and follows the adventures of Alice Todhunter Moon – who prefers to be called Tod!Tod is a descendent of an ancient race of people who are Pathfinders and who could originally breathe underwater. Now very few of them still have the ability but it is this that initiates the evil sorcerer Oraton-Marr to kidnap the entire village of the remaining Pathfinder’s to steal for him the rare egg of the Great Orm, which is hidden underwater; he plans to throw them all in one by one until someone can fetch it for him. Along the way we meet a variety of Magykal creatures including dragons and garmin – a strange fierce creature. We also meet Tod’s best friends Ferdie and Oskar, and they become intertwined with the characters of another book series by the same author. It isn’t necessary to have read the Septimus Heap Magyk books in order to enjoy this, but it might make you curious about some of the characters and I would thoroughly recommend them also. I found the book a thrilling read, and the further I read, the harder it was to put down. If you like fantasy stories, then this is definitely one for you!
