About this audiobook
During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend to the throne.
Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago.
Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them-a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.

We've all read this book a couple dozen (hundred?) times before, regardless of the character names, environments, species, etc. The big, bad, beastly alpha male is blindsided by his sudden passion for some surprising little slip of a thing, who he worships for her sexy body and what he sees as her amazing inner strength. He shows this beguilement by trying to control every aspect of her life. Meanwhile, she squawks a bit at his overbearing manner, but secretly loves letting him overpower her and spends a third of the book fantasising about how else the barely human man might dominate her. Sound familiar? Yeah, I know.
I'm afraid this was a serious case of 'meh' for me. I didn't hate it, but it did little for me either. The issue is that it's a bon-bon. I can't even call it cotton candy, which a person will read for the simple ephemeral wisp of momentary enjoyment. No, this is something you go specifically to the store to buy, curl up on the couch with the box and purposefully indulge in. Indulge in what? Vicariously experiencing what it's like to have some über-male make you the absolute centre of his universe. That's what Tiago does to Tricks. He worships her with every ounce of his beastly self and it touches on some primal female desire apparently, because I realise a lot of people love this kind of thing. More power to you, but I need a little more. Yes, I think seeing the "holocaust of a male" go weak at the knees for his mate is sexy, but it's pretty much all he (or anyone else) did in this book. It's just page after page after page of him growling how sexy she is, or that she's his, or what he's going to do to her when they get to a bed, or how he'd do anything to protect her, or how he'd never leave her, etc. Redundant much? In return, Tricks drools over his muscled, dangerous body and scary, antisocial personality again and again and again. Yep, still redundant. None of this is helped by the tendency to use the same descriptives repeatedly. Tiago's face is described as some version of hatchet hewn or knife bladed about a million times.
There is a thin thread of plot-line tying everything together, but it's not much one. The world was essentially set out in book one and the characters were introduced (though by no means gotten to know) in the previous book. So apparently forgoing the character development was seen as acceptable. (There really isn't any.) So, without much in the line of plot, world-building or character development what do you fill 300 pages with? Yep, you guessed it, internal emotions, declaration off love and sex. That's about all you'll get here. As fantasy fodder it fits the bill, but if you're looking for ANYTHING more substantial it's a fail. There's no substance to it and there isn't meant to be. And while I can kind of see what people see it in, if it's all there is to a book it just feels cheap. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5"STORM'S HEART" BY THEA HARRISONThis book got me excited! Niniane and Tiago's story was really enjoyable was a fast paced read that kept me engaged from start to finish, The Elder Races series is really shaping up to be a great read, I am looking forward to reading the next one I'm sure it will be as well written as the previous two good job. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/53.5 stars
I wavered between a 3.5 and 4 stars for this book. I settled with the 3.5 stars for a few reasons: Niniane was a little too perfect, there was not enough action and this wasn't the most original of stories. Niniane always seemed to say and do the right things, even though she was portrayed as uncertain at times. I guess I could chalk this up to the diplomacy she dealt with being the PR person for Culebre enterprises, but it rang a little false to me. There were too many dull moments in between what little action there was. I thought Tiago was a good mate for Niniane, though he was the typical male who was very protective of his mate. They complemented each other well and seemed to understand what was needed, when it was needed. It wasn't a big surprise who was behind the assassination attempts either. Overall, this was an OK read, but did not live up to the greatness of book one. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Storm's Heart

Synopsis
After the death of her uncle, Niniane "Tricks" Lorelle becomes heiress to the Dark Fae throne. When an attempt is made on her life, the Wyr are the only ones she can trust and Sentinel Tiago Black Eagle is sent to protect her. Tiago and Tricks have always clashed in the past and this is no exception, however, this time they must also contend with an all-consuming passion that threatens to engulf both their worlds.
Review
An exciting sequel.
Most of the plot focuses on the political intrigue of the Dark Fae world and the threats to Niniane's life. The suspense builds slowly toward a compelling conclusion that is more satisfying than the abrupt climax in Dragon Bound.
The romance between Tiago and Niniane is the weak point in the story. Even though they are a strong and likeable couple, their relationship lacks the chemistry and intensity that characterized Dragos and Pia's connection. Moreover, my preference is for kick-ass, independent heroines and while Niniane can hold her own, she comes across as too "girlie" and frivolous for me. Tiago is simply studly and really sweet for such a large and brutish male. It was great watching him fall hard against his better judgement.
The secondary characters are the most compelling, especially Carling, the vampire queen. Some readers may be put off by her cold aloofness but her backstory is particularly intriguing. I look forward to reading about her and Rune in Serpent's Kiss.
The writing flows smoothly and the dialogue is witty in just the right places. One thing that did irritate me is the heroine's name: Niniane as I was constantly thinking of her as a ninny.
In sum, excellent world building and a good suspense story that make up for the somewhat lackluster romance. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Main character is too similar to the main character of previous book. It feels like the auther has only one type of bonding scene she really masters and uses it in every book she writes. She does have some good female characters and can write a good plot. In this particular book I didn't like their happily ever after. Without giving spoilers: At the end I really thought he became the gardener or something! For all that is holy what a week ending scene!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I find that I am really starting to get into this series, it has some of those twists and turns, connections and secrets that Kresley Cole's books have, and I enjoy that quality. I totally fell in love with Tiago (not fond of his name but...not my choice) he is an ultimate alpha male and I love how he totally just claims Tricks as his own.
I love how vulnerable yet still pretty kick ass Tricks is. She definitely keeps you on your toes, but I definitely think she was a little hard on his during "that" part of the book, it was a misunderstanding not a freaking world ending thing. Anyway, the plot is nice and strong, I adore all the characters. I totally fell in love with Carling too, she is awesome.
I liked this one better that the first, here is hoping they keep getting better and better! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Paranormal Romance. Thistle ‘Tricks’ Periwinkle fae and Wyr Sentinel Tiago Black Eagle (thunder and lightening). OK+.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another excellent entry in Harrison's Elder Races series. I really loved the dynamics between Tiago and Niniane (Tricks). They balanced each other well..supporting one another and giving just as much as they took.
Although I enjoyed it, I didn't love it as much as the first. I think because the plot revolved more around the political intrigue of Niniane taking her throw and less around the romance. That isn't to say the romantic development was lacking..it just wasn't the full focus. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good read, just not as awesomesauce as the 1st book, but entertaining none the less.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was really good, I loved the dynamics between Tiago and Tricks. However, I'm not going to read the next book in the series because I really didn't care for Carling AT ALL.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is about a guy who turns into a big golden thunderbird and a (soon-to-be) faery queen falling in love, so obviously it's AMAZING.
Seriously though, this worked for me where sequels that follow tangential characters from the previous book usually don't because the protagonist of this novel had such completely different relationships with and opinions about characters from the first book than the protagonist of that one did. There's a lady who animorphs into a harpy, and the chick in the previous book HATED her, but she's one of the best friends of the lady in this book. Lotsa stuff like that. Fun fun fun. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this book. Some parts were a little slow, but the hero and heroine are great. Tiago is very alpha and possessive. Niniane is smart and resourceful. It shows that you don't have to be the most powerful creature to rule them. You need to be smart, resourceful, charming and have a "way with people". You must also have good allies and friends. Niniane has all of these things. I know that some people don't like a heroine who cannot take care of herself (which Niniane is able to do to a point), but it also shows that there is more to ruling than being the strongest person in the room. I really liked having this in a book. It is something a little different.
I wish we had gotten to see more of the dark fae court. I hope we will see more of it in the future. We did get to meet Charling who will be Rune's mate in the next book. I really like her and can't wait to see more of vampire society. I also hope to see more of Dragos and Pia. I missed them. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If I could have I would have given this book 4.5 stars. I did really enjoy it, but it wasn't quite as good as Dragon Bound.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Thea Harrison's Elder Races series is my newest favorite paranormal romance series. Harrison has gone onto the list of automatic buys (and drop everything else to read immediately!) new releases alongside Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, and Nalini Singh.
I read the first book, Dragon Bound, after getting it from the library. I finished it in one sitting and immediately went out and bought it. Then I bought all the other books in the series that have been published so far including the short stories that happen between some of the books. I sat down to read Storm's Heart after work last night and couldn't put it down until I had finished it. Tiago, like Dragos in Dragon Bound, is an ancient predatory being and an alpha male in the extreme. He is as protective as he is possessive and Niniane aka Tricks is feisty, funny, and intelligent. The cast of supporting characters is great and the more you read about them, the more you want to read their stories as well.
I'll be diving into Serpent's Kiss as soon as I can though probably not after work since I really do need to sleep :) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Thoroughly enjoyable follow-up to Dragon Bound. Now that Uriel, the Dark Fae King is dead, Tricks (who was a supporting character in the first book) is on her way to be the new Queen. When she is attacked, Tiago, the Thunderbird, comes to her rescue. It's a good mix of action, adventure, intrigue, and steamy romance.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: An engaging follow-up to Dragon Bound, full of sarcastic, snarky humor and a steamy, sweet romance.Opening Sentence: You didn’t ignore a summons roared from the Lord of the Wyr in New York, since it usually heralded a disaster of some proportion. The Review:I have read that most people where worried about reading Storm’s Heart because they enjoyed Dragon Bound so much. I was the opposite, I really looked forward to reading Storm’s Heart because I liked Tricks so much as a secondary character that I couldn’t wait to learn more about her. Add Tiago; an ancient Thunderbird, to the mix and it has to be good right? Absolutely! I enjoyed Thea Harrison’s second installment of the Elder Races. We first meet Tricks in Dragon Bound as the PR face of Cuelebre Enterprises. At the end of Dragon Bound we learn that Tricks is really Niniane Lorelle, the heir to the Dark Fae throne. Niniane’s character was portrayed slightly different than in the first book, although she was still spunky and snarky, which was what drew me to her. I was put off with her being so insecure and whinny in the beginning, but after learning about her past and the way her entire family was slaughtered by her evil Uncle Urin, I understood her reluctance at wanting to return home to Adriyel to become Queen. Niniane was comfortable and secure working for Dragos and really hadn’t expected to ever return home so when faced with her destiny, she becomes scared and insecure and has to truly face her past for the first time. In the end, Niniane became a character that I could really appreciate and respect.Tiago is a warlord, the head of Dragos’ private army and enjoys living tooth and claw, fighting wyr battles. Tiago is a Thunderbird, who is able to wield thunder and lighting. He is as ancient as Dragos and was once worshipped as a god. He has a very aggressive, feral personality that matches his beast form perfectly. Tiago is taken by surprise when he reacts so strongly to learning about an assassination attempt against Niniane and takes it upon himself to find her and keep her safe while she negotiates the dangerous, Dark Fae Political Court.Tiago provides the support that Niniane needs to overcome her past and realize that she can be herself and still be Queen. Niniane tries several times to push him away because it’s not acceptable to the Dark Fae for their Queen to be involved with a Wyr. Tiago sometimes comes off as an over protective, domineering, Neanderthal that has no people skills, but watching his transformation to a behind the scenes supporter is awesome, because you know that he really cares for Niniane. It is funny to watch their banter as they go through the hardheaded stage of trying to deny their feelings and push each other to the edge. When they both let go and embrace their feelings it is hot and explosive, with several steamy scenes. I loved that Tiago cared enough to take a backseat and let her rule, when it completely went against his nature. He learns that he enjoys his role.Storm’s Heart has a much darker feel, due to the violence of the past. Niniane and Tiago provide some humor but overall the storyline is harsher. It was also much slower paced and tended to drag somewhat in the middle. I was also disappointed that more of the story didn’t take place in Adriyel instead of mainly at the hotel in Chicago. Harrison continues to impress me with her amazing mythical, magical world. It was interesting to learn more about the political structures within the race and Harrison also introduces new races and characters along with incorporating previous characters as well.Overall, Harrison provides a strong follow up to Dragon Bound. She has piqued my interest with the possibilities of future storylines and leaves me counting down the days until the next installment hits the shelves.Notable Scene:He glowered; thrown off balance by his own intense, unwelcome reaction. Rein it in, stud. Under the reek of smoke he could smell feminine perfume and – was that the scent of blood?“Oh, you shouldn’ta done that,” Niniane said. Large upside-down Fae eyes tried to focus on him. “Breaking and entering. That’s against the law.” She sniggered.Tiago took refuge from his strange feelings in the much more familiar emotion of aggression. “What are you doing?” he demanded. “What do you mean ‘go back to New York’? Do I smell blood?”“I can only answer one question at a time, you know,” she said. With remarkable dignity, considering. “I am hanging my head over to hear the wind blow. I never did get that bit in the lyrics. Who hears the wind blow when they hang their head over? Hang their head over what? What does that even mean? Do you know?”He had no idea what she was babbling about. Something about the stupid song she had been trying to sing. He pushed the door shut with a foot and strode over to stub out the smoldering cigarette. “This is disgusting,” he snapped. “Why haven’t you called? We’ve been worried sick about you.”“Whoa,” she said. She looked up-or down, as it were-at Tiago’s crotch, which had stopped right in front of her. He was one scary mean-looking oversized barbarian, in black jeans, black boots and black leather vest. He bristled with weapons and anger, and muscles bulged everywhere. His crotch sported a significant bulge too. A very significant bulge. She licked her lips. She might be drunk but she wasn’t dead. She wouldn’t be forgetting this sight in a hurry.Obsidian eyes glittered. “Tricks, what the hell? Seriously.”The Elder Races Series:1. Dragon Bound2. Storm’s Heart3. Serpent’s Kiss4. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Ok, so as much as I liked Dragon Bound, I loved Storm's Heart. There was a very different feel to this one, while still being very much the same world. In this story, Niniane, also known as "Tricks", Dragos's PR faerie, is off to claim her rightful place as the heir to the Dark Fae throne. The problem is that there are factions within the Dark Fae demesne that do not want her to take that throne. Next thing you know, her life is in danger and she is feeling lost and alone without her adopted Wyr family around to protect her. That is when Tiago comes crashing through her motel room door as a kinght in shining armor. Or at least as a thunderbird bent on wreaking havoc for anyone with her death on their minds.Much like the previous book, Storm's Heart is filled with characters that add to the depth of the hero and heroine. I liked the interaction between Niniane and her best friend, the harpy Aryal, and the camaraderie between Tiago and Rune. It gives the characters a life beyond just what is happening between them. It also gives us a bit of background for the next book in the series. There is no need to reintroduce us to the characters when we meet them again in the next book - instead, we can jump right into the action! :)There were two twists in this book that made it unique for me. One was that there was a genuine mystery to solve. The assasination attempts on Niniane were a mystery that needed to be solved before the killers succeeded, and they were getting pretty close each time. Another interesting thing was that Ninane and Tiago had known each other for, literally, hundreds of years. Because of that, this wasn't a "struck by lightning at first sight" kind of story. Instead, it was a matter of two people, who knew each other quite well in some ways, suddenly looking at each other in a whole new light, and learning all sorts of new things! :) Very good book. I am anxiously awaiting the third in this promising series.

Vacation Review: I am going to be in the minority here but I enjoyed Storm's Heart as much as I enjoyed Dragon Bound. I can't help it, I just loved Tiago and Tricks so much! They were both fun, stressed out, confused hot messes that just kept me laughing from beginning to end. I think it was their very human qualities that really made me fall in love them with though. Plus, their sizzle was off the charts. It was a little frustrating waiting for them to finally get it on but I think it ended up being well worth the wait. Without giving anything away, there was a moment that he says something that he had been saying the whole book that just made my heart melt. *dreamy sigh*
Quick Note: I really enjoy the friendship and camaraderie in this series. The fact that there are so many reasons why things could change but untimely everyone sticks together is what makes me love these stories! If you haven't picked up this series, I highly recommend it! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really did enjoy this story as much as the first book in this series. Harrison has created a fun world with awesome characters. I couldn't quite give it the full 5 stars. From the first book, I pictured Niniane (Tricks) a little differently - less of a cryer I guess. I should probably give her a break; she was in a very stressful situation. She does cry, though - a lot.But I loved Tiago in all his alpha brutishness. He is one of those characters that scares everyone, is not nice to anyone, but can't help but be sweet and caring towards Niniane. Swoon-worthy, I tell you.As for the story - Niniane, the last of the Dark Fey royal family, is to take the throne after her uncle (who had murdered the rest of her family to take the throne 200 years before), is killed. Of course there are people who do not want her to take the throne and she must deal with assassination attempts. This is where Tiago comes in, to keep her safe until the coronation. Easier said than done when you have not just Dark Fey involved, but also vampires and Wyr. Tiago, himself, is a Wyr who can shapeshift into a giant thunderbird. I really liked Tiago and Niniane's interactions. When she was not crying, their interfactions were funny and sweet and sexy. The only thing that creeped me out was when he called her "young lady". Ew.Rune and Carling's story is next. From the little we learn about Carling in this book, I am anxious to learn more about her past.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Tricks/Niniane is described as a delicate 5 feet tall, occasionally sporting pigtails and affecting a lisp, who has "kitten claws" and wears Hello Kitty bandaids. Tiago is described as a 6'4" bulldozer of a man whose body is "over twice her size." Um, surely I'm not the only one squicked out by that? The childlike "sex kitten" and the big, bad man--no one else finds that creepy? Especially their first make out session, when she's seeping blood from being stabbed in the ribs and he's mostly angry with her anyway. I mean, for Pete's sake. Fortunately, about halfway through, the author pulls way back on the "delicate", "huge" comparisons and both characters start being described as and acting like fully formed adults. (I was thisclose to slapping a big DNF on this up to that point).Squick factor aside, the plotting was fine, if a bit slow at first, the worldbuilding was mostly fine (although I do wonder why all the supernatural creatures of the world are headquartered in the US) and the characters were... interesting, if sometimes deeply stupid. It's highly unlikely that I'll ever re-read this particular book, but I haven't given up on the series yet... largely because the next book is about Carling, who was one of the few shining stars from this one.
