About this audiobook

The loss of control. The fear of desire.

Allie always thought that mysteriously sexy rancher Caleb Johnson wanted her as much as she wanted him. But since he never acted on it, she was ready to admit defeat. Until the night she was attacked by a vicious wolf, only to be rescued by another. In the triumphant, bloodied male, there was something Allie recognized-the baritone growl, the mesmerizing eyes, the inexplicable animal attraction. Her savior was Caleb.

A rogue vampire living with his three equally rogue brothers and the McClaren werewolf pack, Caleb never wanted to bring the woman he secretly desired into his dark and dangerous world. But when she's targeted by his enemimes, his only choice is to protect her. But how can someone as alive, as vulnerable, as human as Allie survive in the shadows with him?

Well my high hopes fell short on this one. Don't get me wrong I liked it but did not love it as I wanted to. This book gets off to an exciting start that sucks you in and make you keep reading but then it ends a few chappys in and gets confussing. It is almost as if there is another who took over writing...hmmm...the writing becomes disjointed and I found my self not being able to follow the conversations or what was going on stopping and going back a few paragraphs to reread cause I thought I missed something only I didn't.It was confussing and it drove me Nutz~! It felt as if a lot of the story was missing =(

Disappointing. I usually like the intensity of Sarah McCarty, but this was her first supernatural that I had read, and it failed the test of getting me to read it to the end, I just fizzled out. The confusion of being both a vampire and able to transform into wolf shape didn't work for me, and his changing her didn't work for me, so the world building didn't work and then their chemistry wasn't much either, he's all demanding, she's all compliant... It was a bit one note. I like her Westerns best, and won't continue with this series

Perfect for a quick love story - with plenty of steamy sex scenes! There are some parts that definitely require more explanation, but maybe that was part of another series I don't know about. Some logistical things that were more work to figure out than I wanted to do for a bodice-ripper. Overall I liked the brothers so I think I'll continue the series. And if the next one is 70% sex like this one, it'll be just another nightstand book to read before bed.

The lure of Sarah McCarty’s novels is that they are deliciously sensual, descriptive, and heavy on relationship. By comparison to other urban fantasy/paranormal novels, Caleb might a bit light on plot, but the overwhelming feeling is that McCarty is taking her time to get the story right, unwinding it slowly and making sure that the connection between her two main characters is solid, grounded. In fact it is McCarty’s cornerstone. Caleb presents well: feisty, sensual, and feral in some action scenes-everything a paranormal romance should be.The relationship and obstacles between Caleb Johnson and Allie Sanders is fraught with frenzy, passion and McCarty draws that thread tautly. What was surprising was the presence of subtle nuances of pure urban fantasy writing. Is McCarty at a crossroads perchance? I was deeply curious and hungered for more of the D’Nally wolves (especially clothing-challenged Ian D’Nally), Derek the werewolf, and the McClaren wolves. Caleb was largely missing a backstory of the Johnson brothers. With Calebs’ turning aside, how were the Johnson’s lives in the Wild West as vampire wranglers? McCarty only provides hints. What tales McCarty could have spun, further lynch pinning her story to her readers. I eagerly look forward to the next in the series and hope that McCarty doesn’t play it too close to the vest next time. Readers are dying for Slade and Jared’s secrets.
