About this audiobook

A spellbinding novel of romantic obsession.

Vernon Deyre is a sensitive and brilliant musician, even a genius. But there is a high price to be paid for his talent, especially by his family and the two women in his life. His sheltered childhood in the home he loves has not prepared Vernon for the harsh reality of his adult years, and in order to write the great masterpiece of his life, he has to make a crucial decision with no time left to count the cost…

Famous for her ingenious crime books and plays, Agatha Christie also wrote about crimes of the heart, six bittersweet and very personal novels, as compelling and memorable as the best of her work.

Really enjoyed this long story with interesting characters, taking them from childhood to middle age. Lots of social comment regarding war, money, art, love, changing roles and attitudes to women, class, morality and so on. If you like that sort of thing I recommend it.

I was very surprised by this book, didn’t really know anything about this side of Christie. The emotional complexity of the characters was splendid. Maybe a younger reader won’t comprehend the truth of many of the interpersonal relationships, but they were so sadly accurate. Human emotions are quixotic

"Giant's Bread" is a surprisingly good book. Everyone who has read any of the less famous Agatha Christie's novels (aka around 90% of all her works) is probably aware of the painful fact that the world's favorite mystery writer does not live up to the hype most of the time. Her characters are boring, her plots are full of holes and uninteresting, she has raging hatred for all things non-English, etc. But the "Giant's Bread" is a proof that there was potential in her that she never truly tapped in. Characters here are amazing. Yes, they all have flaws (some more than the others), but neither of their personalities are without merit. They have fears, hopes, dreams, prejudices and they all, as the time goes by, evolve. As for the story itself, that one is equally well done, and is driven by both the plot and the characters. All in all, I really liked this book and if you happen to be reading this review, trust me when I tell you that you won't regret picking it up.
