There is nothing like a bit of romantic suspense to put you on edge and making you wonder who the killer is. I of course always fail until it's so obvious that whoever could guess it.

Grace finds her boss murdered. So of course she is one of the suspects even if she has a good alibi. And there is something strange about the murder. It reminds her of another murder long ago. Not to mention it seems someone is after her too! So what is going on? Well, yes like I said before I always do try but can never figure it out, lol.

Julian is someone she goes on a blind date with. He is calm, smart, rich, former marine and someone who steps in when she needs it. Oh and of course they fall in love then. Slowly and good.

I liked the suspense, and the danger felt real. Nothing too crazy. But something (well sort of), that could happen to anyone.

It was a nice mix of danger and romance.

Another good story from Jayne Ann Krentz. This story starts out when a highly respected motivational speaker is found murdered. As the person that finds his body, Grace Elland, is stunned & afraid because she thinks someone is trying to pin the murder on her. She returns to her childhood home to try and regroup as she looks for a new career. As luck will have it, she meets Julius Arkwright, a venture capitalist. She hires him to help her write a business plan to get a new job. From that point on the story takes different twists & turns. Grace & Julius are interesting. I had no idea who the murderer was or why Grace was being targeted which kept the book interesting.

Returning to her hometown after discovering the lifeless body of her boss, Grace Elland only wants to move on with her life. With that in mind, she agrees to a blind date with venture capitalist, Julian Arkwright, only to realize that they have absolutely nothing in common … that is until Grace becomes the target of a stalker and Julian’s skills as a former marine are put to good use.

One can always rely on JAK for a fast and fun read even if the characters are standard, the story formulaic and the ending predictable.

Grace and Julius are likable as individuals, but have no emotional attachment or physical chemistry. Although Grace is quirky and flighty, her idiosyncrasies are not as “in your face” as some of JAK’s more ‘artistic’ heroines. Julius starts out as a typical alpha jerk who is completely clueless about women. That said, he is open and honest about his intentions and feelings, which means that most of the angst is external to their relationship and reserved for the suspense plot.

The mystery is better than the romance with one or two solid twists related to a traumatic experience from Grace’s past. Nevertheless, the ultimate revelation of the villain and the motive are unsurprising.

The true highlight of the book is the secondary cast. From Agnes, Grace’s busy-body neighbor to Harley, Julius’s no nonsense mentor, to Irene and Devlin Nakamura, the matchmaking duo for hell, all are charming, witty and amusing.

All in all, this book is for those who have read and loved JAK’s writing, but not recommended for first time readers of her work.

Jayne Ann Krentz writes her modern novels under this, her real name; historical novels under Amanda Quick; and her futuristic books under Jayne Castle. I've read most of the books under all of these titles and have rarely been disappointed. Lady Godiva chocolate, she is not, nor does she pretend to be. She is more like Whitman's sampler or Lindt: a secret sweet treat that satisfies a craving but does not cost you much brain power to read them. And this book is more like an 89 cent Hershey bar. Still good, but not her best work.Grace Elland is the secret weapon behind the Witherspoon Way, the positive thinking guru's empire, Sprague Witherspoon developed. Sadly she actually believes in these affirmations. She created the internet site and wrote the popular cookbook that is making Witherspoon rise to the top. Until, she goes over to his house when he does not show up for work and finds him dead in his bed, with a vodka bottle that reminds her of a trauma in her past sitting on the table beside him. Witherspoon does not drink vodka. When Grace was sixteen, she went into the old insane asylum because she had heard there was a party there the night before and she wanted to know who had hooked up with who. What she finds is a little boy tied up, a dead body, and a vodka bottle. Before she can rescue the boy, the man who put him there and killed the woman drives up. She grabs the bottle and tells the boy to be prepared to run up the stairs and go for help. As the man goes down the steps, the boy flies by him and Grace almost gets by him, but he grabs hold of her. She smashes the bottle and cuts the man repeatedly before getting help. Since then she has spent a lot of time in therapy where she learned breathing techniques and other devices as well as pills to help her cope with the nightmares and memories.Enter capitalist, Julius Arkwright, who is set up on a blind date with Grace by her best friend and her best friend's cop husband who wants Julius to check her out to see if she's the killer. The date is a disaster, but Julius leaves believing that she is innocent. Soon, however, Grace begins receiving e-mails from her boss's account that sound a shade deadly and then a rat is found in her refrigerator. Someone is stalking Grace and Julius makes himself her bodyguard.Witherspoon left behind an enraged daughter who hated her father, her gold-digging fiancé, and two other staff members who could be behind the missing money that has left Witherspoon on the tip of collapse; not that it can go on without him.Whether or not I want to, I really like Grace and Julius, the bored businessman who can make money in his dreams without even trying are very likable characters and worth reading about. There are plenty of suspects, but you can pretty much figure out who did it and why easily. You can still get enjoyment out of Julius's disdain over her affirmations, when his sound so much better: Trust no one and everybody has a hidden agenda because in this book his words ring true. This may be a cheap bar of chocolate, but we still eat them, because they taste good, even if they are not good for us.

Grace Elland works for a guru of positive thinking. Used to bouncing from job to job, she's finally found stability and success with the Witherspoon Way. Then Grace finds her boss murdered. A vodka bottle on his nightstand is a terrifying reminder of the horrors of her past, a message to Grace that can be no coincidence.Interesting mystery but be aware that there are a few sex scenes in the book.

Not perfect but it kept me reading.well past my bedtime.Straight into the action with this one, Grace Elland finds her boss dead in his house in silk pyjamas, and hears a noise, picking up the vodka bottle near the body she leaves, then calls the cops, when she sees the bottle it brings back memories of her previous trauma where she is forced to defend herself against a murderer. Who would want to kill a motivational speaker. All is not as it seems. Now without a job.she moves back to the family holiday home to try to work out what she's going to do with her life. She was good at her last job, writing most of the affirmations and a cookbook, but taking none of the credit. things change after she goes on a blind date with ex-marine and venture capitalist Julius Arkwright who is finding life a bit dull, he finds that she's interesting and she finds him helpful when she starts being stalked. It's formula romance fiction, you don't expect it to wander far from that genre's tropes, and it doesn't but it does what it does well and engaged me while reading.

Typical Jayne Krentz romantic suspense. She writes well but the characters have gotten so cookie cutter over the years that you could swap one with a counterpart from another book and never know the difference. Krentz probably writes from a Chinese restaurant menu -- choose one characteristic from Column A and two from column B. But the heroine is always is a vegetarian and spunky. At least this was a contemporary tale without all of the inauthentic Regency or Victorian details. But for some reason I keep reading her books -- maybe because they read fast and the story gives driving forward.

similar model as prior Jayne Ann Krentz books for main characters. Fun read but ending seemed a little weak. Rich, financial shark hero falls for naive but savvy woman. Enjoyed the positive affirmations that were part of the storyline about murdered motivational speaker.

Trust No One feels like many of the early Krentz books, a bit of mystery, a dash of romance, and a ripping good story holding everything together.Grace works for a guru of self-help and is credited with being the brains behind the operation. She thinks she just gives Sprague Witherspoon some sayings, called afirmations. When she goes to check on her boss and finds him dead she becomes embroiled in a murder, again. Seems that she was involved in one at age 16 as well. A few days later she is set up on a blind date with Julius Arkwright and sparks fly. This was a lot of fun and I'm enjoying the books that are not part of a series. Don't get me wrong, I love the various series books but something different once in a while is wonderful. As far as I know I've read every book Krentz has written, under all of her various names. Nothing that is happening lately will change that, the books are still well written and fun to read.

What is it about some people to which trouble seems to follow? Grace Elland’s boss had not shown up for work. She went to Sprague Witherspoon’s home. The door was open. She found he’d been killed. Immediately, she is reminded of a scene from when she was only sixteen. The murder technique was different, but there was a vodka bottle left prominently at the scene – same brand as years before.Devlin Nakamura is the detective investigating. His wife, Irene, has known Grace since childhood. Irene sets her up on a blind date with Julius Arkwright who’d served in the Marine Corps with Devlin and is now a venture capitalist. The date was a bit of a disaster with both thinking the other was boring. Even still, they were attracted to each other. When she realizes she has a stalker, Julius steps in to offer protection. The novel is a delightful cat and mouse drama with several suitable suspects. The police even look at Grace initially since she’d been ‘involved’ in both murders and because the vodka bottle was apparent at both scenes. I liked Grace’s character, but I was in love with the character of Julius Arkwright. Some of his no-nonsense, practical, and succinct dialogue actually reminded me of the personality of Sherlock Holmes. She is as much an optimist as he is a pragmatist. This is a romantic suspense with a heavier dose of suspense over romance, which is exactly the way I like it. I rated Trust No One at 4.5 out of 5.

The story begins with Grace Elland discovering the body of her employer. He was murdered and a bottle of vodka was left at his side. The vodka triggers memories of when Grace was sixteen and she killed a man who had murdered his wife and was about to murder a young boy and her. Grace still suffers from nightmares. After losing her job, she moves to her old family home in Cloud Lake. She meets Julius Arkwright when her best friend and her husband set them up on a blind date. Julius is a very successful venture capitalist.Julius and Grace become close when they begin to investigate the stalker that Grace has attracted. I loved the Grace was a positive thinking sort of person. I also loved that she was a master marketer who was largely responsible for her boss's success as a motivational speaker. Julius is a much more cynical person. While Grace is constantly coming up with motivational slogans, Julius has only two rules: Trust No One and Everyone has a Hidden Agenda. This story was filled with romance and danger. I enjoyed both the suspense and the growing relationship between Julius and Grace.
