      Good book, I like the reader’s voice and his pace.

      I need to give this book a second chance. I read it in the 9th grade and I don't I paid enough attention to it. I found an old used copy at a thrift store and it is on my "to read again" list.

      I have reread The Outsiders many times since I first discovered it, but I was very disappointed in That Was Then, This Is Now, another book by Ms. Hinton.However, I am pleased to report that Tex is a worthwhile follow up read, a place to go to for a few hours, a story to sink into, deep.Tex is 15, and is being raised by his older brother, Mace, in the absence of their father, who prefers the rodeo circuits to being home with his sons.It's a trying time for the brothers, especially with money being short. Tex and his friend Johnny get into trouble over shenanigans, but Mace has his own demons he is struggling with.And now Tex is in love.Good read, entertaining, with some deeper elements that raise it above standard fare.

      The author really did a good job of putting the moral in the story. At the beginning, Mason provided emotional support for Tex. This really helped Tex control his anger after his horse was sold. When he got in trouble at school, both his brother and his father showed up to pick him up. Even though they weren't his real brother or father, they still showed love and care for him.

      I think this is officially my favorite Hinton book for the time being. I recently reread That Was Then, This is Now, my favorite Hinton book from childhood and was slightly disappointed with it. When I read Tex as a child, I hated it, but now this time around I loved it! Isn't it funny how things can change with time? Hinton, as usual, has a wonderful way of getting into the mind of her protagonist. The dialogue is realistic, and the story is interesting without ever being too far over the top. The soul of the story is the relationship between Tex and his older brother Mason; their relationship is flawed, but deep down they truly love each other.There are several side stories that are just as interesting, and the pacing was wonderful. I never found myself bored or counting backwards from the last page. Wonderful book that is a perfect addition for anyone's library.

      The best of Hinton's books. Perhaps because it was my first. I fell in love with Tex. I fell in love with his vulnerability, his confusion, his loyalty to friends and family. This book is a mirror to my younger self. I see the title and I see myself at fourteen - a confused, curious, lonely young girl dissapearring into books the way others disappeared into dating.

      I really enjoyed this book. The characters were unique and complex; the story fast paced and easy to read.Really one of the better S. E. Hinton books in my opinion. It doesn't have anything to do with gangs like many of her other books and just focuses on a pair of brothers trying to survive when their father is away. It's really much more than just that, but that's the main story.
