About this audiobook
The Trinity is truly a mystery. This doctrine teaches that the God of Christianity is one in His essence but three in His persons-the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Though the word Trinity is not found in the Bible, there is no doubt that the Scriptures teach this triune nature of God. Yet the concept still challenges our finite minds. In this Crucial Questions booklet, Dr. R.C. Sproul carefully explains the doctrine of the Trinity, stressing that Christians worship one God who manifests Himself in three distinct persons. He shows what the Bible teaches and outlines the chief errors on this doctrine that have afflicted the church. Above all, he affirms that while this truth is difficult to understand, it is not contradictory. Rather, it is a beautiful expression of the biblical teaching on the nature of God.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sproul quickly and succinctly explains the doctrine of the Trinity by developing both the exegetical supports and the historical developments. He begins by locating monotheism within the history of religions. This naturally leads to the question of one God in three persons, the heart of the book. Though the idea is difficult, it is supported all throughout Scripture. The Old Testament left clear indications concerning the Triunity of God. The New Testament made explicit what the Old implied. Not only was the deity of the Father, Son, and Spirit affirmed, so also was the central idea of monotheism, the hard but necessary belief in God as Three in One. The church almost immediately dealt with those that misunderstood the Trinity and proposed a variety of heresies. Successive church councils correctly defended the doctrine of God against those that denied the deity of the Son or proposed a multiplicity of persons in the Godhead. These were just a couple of the many errors. The struggle did force the church to understand and explain the doctrine with a degree of precision. This is where we received the terminology that we use today such as person, essence, and nature. Though the Trinity may be a mystery, it is not a contradiction. It is essential that believers understand this vital doctrine.Sproul more than accomplishes his purpose. The book is easily accessible and very informative. It does not deal with more in depth issues such as generation and procession because that is beyond the scope. As for Trinity, this book is an excellent introduction.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book did not explain the Trinity. Sproul wrote this like a textbook, but one that did not cover the topic. He jumped around from monotheism to just random parts of the Bible. A lot of the book just rambled on about topics that had little to do with what the Trinity actually is. The one good thing I got out of this book is my own understanding of what the Trinity is, and it had nothing to do with his explanations.
