About this audiobook
Being a teacher can be one of the most rewarding professions, but also one of the most frustrating. Many teachers feel very prepared to instruct students in their chosen subjects, but don't have quite as much training in managing classroom discipline-yet experienced educators know that if challenging behavior goes unchecked, the entire year can be disrupted. 1-2-3 Magic in the Classroom shows teachers how to establish and maintain good discipline habits in their classrooms through an easy-to-understand program that you'll swear "works like magic."
1-2-3 Magic in the Classroom will help you understand:
How to encourage courteous classroom behavior and constructive work habits
How your personality affects your teaching style
How to effectively manage transition times with your class
Successful methods for handling assemblies, recess, lunchtime, and field trips
How to communicate productively with parents
1-2-3 Magic in the Classroom takes the guesswork out of classroom discipline and will help you get back to teaching and your students get back to learning-today!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed 1-2-3 Magic (the parent version) several years ago and I like this classroom edition too. The main points are nearly identical, but its overall direction is more school oriented. Mind you, parents and teachers can (and should) use these two similar methods simultaneously.
Mr Phelan's approach is both clever and practical. (I like the fact he leaves his religious opinions out of this book; FYI, I found his pro-religious approach in only one of his publications so ... no major worries. (We're not allowed to integrate any religious points into our teaching where I am from.))
1-2-3 Magic in the Classroom: Effective Discipline for Pre-k Through Grade 8 is relatively brief and fluff-free, unlike this review, LOL. Most importantly, as it truly integrates all the essential bits and pieces, you won't have to research a bunch of teaching/disciplining/rewarding theories in order to create your own, or read a number of so-called self-help books, or both.
Highly recommended.
You may want to follow each and every step without skipping any, even if you think your current method(s) cannot be improved when it comes to certain areas of your expertise. They can. Unless your classroom management skills already guarantee a stress- and noise-free classroom on a daily basis, in which case you wouldn't be looking into 1-2-3 Magic in the first place, give this book a try. You won't regret it and your students will end up enjoying your lessons even more. Plus you will have more time to crack silly jokes and, let's face it, slack a bit more than constantly strict teachers. Which is what all of us aspire to do, right?
Whether you struggle with being able to maintain peace and harmony per se, or simply wish to improve your teaching methods (or try new ones), you will likely become a better teacher, and your students will respect you as much as they do in your dreams. You know, the perfect classroom, regardless of the age of your students (a bit like in the Dead poets society, of "Dead Poets Society" if you are American and/or suffer from the Capital-Letters-Everywhere-Just-In-Case syndrome).
This thing works. Well worth eight hours, IMHO.
(For non-native English speakers, like myself, and for lazy people, no comment about myself, this audio version works well too, i.e. the narrator speaks clearly and without rushing, yet the whole audiobook can be listened to in a day or two.)
Once more, highly recommended. One of the best books on the subject of discipline, and the only book I personally selected as my complete blueprint when it comes to classroom management.
No kids were harmed in the process of trying out new teaching methods... :-)
