About this audiobook

The author of New Uses for Old Boyfriends returns to the Delaware seashore town of Black Dog Bay, where one woman learns to put passion before practicality....

Brighton Smith doesn't do outrageous. As an insurance actuary, it's her job to assess risk and avoid bad investments. But when her fiancé calls to confess he's married someone else on a whim ("I looked at her and I just knew!"), she snaps....

That night, at a local bar, Jake Sorenson - hot, rich, and way out of her league - buys Brighton a cocktail. At midnight, she kisses him. And by dawn, they're exchanging vows at a drive-through chapel.

Brighton knows Jake is a bad bet, but she doesn't care. After a lifetime of playing it safe, she's finally having fun. Until the whirlwind romance gives way to painful reality...and Brighton finds out the truth about why a guy like Jake married a girl like her.

With her heart on the line and the odds stacked against them, Brighton must decide whether to cut her losses or take a leap of faith that this love affair is one in a million.

Kendrick has really hit the sweet spot between women's fiction and chick lit, with her reoccuring stories that take place in the break up capital of the country, Black Dog Bay. In this new title, Type A actuary Brighton doesn't play to type and after an argument about the zipper merge, breaks up with her fiancé and heads to visit her friend Kira for what was to be a long weekend. Instead, she takes part in a spontaneous revenge marriage with a guy she just met at The Whinery--always an entertaining trope. Naturally, sparks fly between her and Jake, and with the odds against them, it's fun to see how things will actually work out (or not) between them. These quick, amusing reads are perfect books for vacation days.

I have been reading some pretty heavy books lately, so I wanted to give myself a break to enjoy something lighthearted, romantic and simple. Put A Ring On It by Beth Kendrick totally fills that request.

The first thing that reeled me in was the adorable cover. Who can resist a sweet little fur-baby face?? As I was standing there perusing the shelves I noticed that practically all of the author's books have covers that make you want to toss them your cart and take them home with you. Being a total cover-snob, this is a powerful thing!

After I got the book home, I realized that it was actually part of a series called Black Dog Bay. I believe it is the third book. Apparently though, the books can be read individually as I did not feel that I was missing out on anything by not reading the two prior books.

The story is set in a picturesque resort town called Black Dog Bay, and is the perfect location for this entertaining beach read. The main character is Brighton Smith, who has a basically mundane insurance job and suddenly finds herself jilted by a fiance who calls to tell her he just married someone else! So she heads out to Black Dog Bay to visit a friend and get away from her sudden predicament. And this is where the story pretty much begins.

I really enjoyed this sweet, romantic comedy. It is perfect for those times when you just need something that is uncomplicated, easy to read, and gives you a reason to smile. I will definitely be looking for more by Beth Kendrick. I find her writing to be charming, and her characters are all engaging and fun.

Great fun! The characters are interesting and easy to care about. A really nice love story. Makes you want to read more of the author's books!

This is the third book in the Black Dog Bay Series, but it can also be read as a stand-alone. The previous books feature different girls as main characters: Summer from Cure for the Common Breakup and Lila from New Uses for Old Boyfriends. Since Black Dog Bay is a small town, so Summer does show up for a little and Lila is a supporting character.

I really enjoyed reading the book. It was an easy, light, and fun read. The ending was a little obvious but so are most romance books. I did not have a chance to read the first two books in the series, but the town definitely caught my interest. Everyone seems to know each other and gossips can spread within seconds.

I do not get all these books with a dog on their covers. The dog is not even introduced til midway in the book and does not have any significant parts til the last several chapters of the book. Rory supposes to be a large Mastiff mix but how come the dog on the cover is a cute retriever? I think a ring or a watch would be more appropriate as a cover.

Black Dog Bay, Delaware is the place women run to after horrible break-ups. It's filled with businesses such as the Better Off Bed-and-Breakfast, Whinery, Rebound Salon, Eat Your Heart Out Bakery and the Naked Finger jewelry store. All these businesses are run by women who came to Black Dog Bay to recover from broken hearts. Brighton decides to visit her college roommate, Kira, who just started her psychiatry practice in Black Dog Bay. Brighton's engagement to Colin has just ended and she is throwing her structured and planned life out the window and taking off a few days to catch up with Kira.As Brighton arrives in Black Dog Bay, she finds herself being introduced to the resident bachelor, Jake Sorenson. When she receives a call from Colin that he has married a woman he just met, she one-ups him by flying to Vegas in Jake Sorenson's private jet and marrying him while sending texts to Colin of the whole event. None of this is part of Brighton's life plan and as an actuary, she is constantly weighing all the risks after they return. When the risks start to feel too overwhelming, she decides to have fun with it and take a few weeks off a work. She even takes some time to dabble in her favorite hobby, jewelry design. Brighton finds she can easily picture herself living this life of wealth and creating jewelry, but it is too full of risks. Brighton can't believe that a marriage built on revenge can really be about love and stand the test of time.Of the three books in the Black Dog Bay series, this was the most unrealistic for me. All three of the novels in the series have been fun, light-hearted, and witty. But, this storyline felt a bit more forced and contrite for me. I didn't connect with the characters as much because the true romance piece to the story wasn't until the very end. Even though it is a quick and satisfying read, and the setting of Black Dog Bay makes for a creative story, the romance in this one was a bit dull.Kendrick has created a unique setting for these Black Dog Bay novels and each of them stands on their own as well as reignites some of the much-loved characters from the other novels. A romantic interlude, spontaneous decisions, and a close-knit community make for an entertaining read.If you would like to see my reviews of her other novels, click the titles:CURE FOR THE COMMON BREAKUPNEW USES FOR OLD BOYFRIENDSSide notes:It took over half-way through the novel for the dog in the story to be introduced. I think the cover is cute and eye-catching, but not sure it if is the right cover for this book. The dog on the cover isn't even the type of dog described in the story.Favorite Quote:"This was the real problem with marrying someone she didn't know. It made her question whether she really knew herself." Page 71

I have not read any of the other books in this series. However after reading s book I will be checking them out. I love the town of Black Dog Bay and the people in it. I really did not know how much I was going to be in love with this book. I could not stop reading it. I found myself chuckling and smiling throughout the book with all of the funny moments. It was not the chemistry that sucked me into Brighton and Jake's world but the witty banter between them. Brighton really let loose and was a fun loving lady. This was refreshing as I thought she was going to be the stuffy old lady in the suit. Then there is Jake. Yeah, he may be rich but he has a heart of gold. Put this book on your must read list.
