About this audiobook

His Scandal
Her Secret

From New York Times bestselling author Alafair Burke, a stunning domestic thriller in the vein of Behind Closed Doors and The Woman in Cabin 10—in which a woman must make the impossible choice between defending her husband and saving herself.

When Angela met Jason Powell while catering a dinner party in East Hampton, she assumed their romance would be a short-lived fling, like so many relationships between locals and summer visitors. To her surprise, Jason, a brilliant economics professor at NYU, had other plans, and they married the following summer. For Angela, the marriage turned out to be a chance to reboot her life. She and her son were finally able to move out of her mother’s home to Manhattan, where no one knew about her tragic past.

Six years later, thanks to a bestselling book and a growing media career, Jason has become a cultural lightning rod, placing Angela near the spotlight she worked so carefully to avoid. When a college intern makes an accusation against Jason, and another woman, Kerry Lynch, comes forward with an even more troubling allegation, their perfect life begins to unravel. Jason insists he is innocent, and Angela believes him. But when Kerry disappears, Angela is forced to take a closer look at the man she married. And when she is asked to defend Jason in court, she realizes that her loyalty to her husband could unearth old secrets.

This much-anticipated follow-up to Burke’s Edgar-nominated The Ex asks how far a wife will go to protect the man she loves: Will she stand by his side, even if he drags her down with him?

Hands down the best book I’ve read in a really long time! The story line was original and the characters were all well formed. It kept me guessing until the very end. Listening to the audio format was an added bonus as the reader does an incredible job with the variety of different character voices and the pacing was spot on for such a lengthy book. Overall my favorite book of the year by far.

Alafair Burke did it again!!! I did not expect the ending. At some point I felt like the story was drawn out and some details could’ve been left out but at the end I understood why the author took time to detail certain events. This book will not disappoint. I was so sure I knew what was going to happen but I was proven wrong. Worth your time!

I was not expecting the ending but wow! Great, suspenseful story till the end. Kind of left you hanging but I still enjoyed it overall. I thought I had it all figured out a few times and was wrong. I like a story that's not too predictable.

Well written. Complicated enough to be very interesting, but not so complicated it was hard to understand. Very enjoyable. Will read more of her books in the future!

It was a good book for the most part, it didn't really grab my full attention until I was about halfway in. At points the story seemed a bit weak and in my personal opinion, the points that touches on trauma could have been elaborated or better incorporated as to give a clearer reflection of how trauma influences a person's life.

All that being said, I enjoyed the ending, although somewhat predictable, as these types of books tend to be. It was wrapped up quite fast, I would've enjoyed the writer exploring these parts more and again the impact of trauma in all this.

The female lead isn't a stepford wife! She is a woman who was failed by everyone around her and despite the horror she endured she learned how to survive. Her marriage was no exception. She survived it by any means necessary and for those reasons I loved Angela. You have to finish the book to understand her character. It's a really good book and XE Sands, the narrator, is once again flawless! I highly recommend this book and anything XE Sands narrates.

4.5 stars overall. The beginning was slow but did I expect this ending? I was so sure who the culprit was but I didn’t expect things to drastically change. Omg! This is a great story.
