      I really enjoyed this book and the narration was fantastic. I loved listening to that beautiful Irish lilt while listening to this book. I agree with many of the reviews here. Emily is certainly a very lost character but I like how she finds herself along the way. There are a few other characters in the story who I felt great sympathy for but if I say who they are it will give the story away ; - ) This is a wonderful book to listen to and a good story overall.

      The book is excellent! I literally enjoyed every word spoken by the very talented narrator. The book was finished in two days, and I can't wait to dig into her other novels. I highly recommend this one. You will love it!

      I enjoyed this story although it took me a while to become engaged. Emily was a damaged young lady and sometimes I wanted to give her a good shake. Worth reading.

      From the very opening of Her Name Was Rose, Claire Allen immediately catapults her readers into the action when the narrator, Emily, narrowly escapes becoming a victim of a hit and run accident. She suspects that this was no accident, and that she was supposed to be the intended target- not the young mother whose life Emily witnesses being torn out right before her eyes. It is also immediately apparent that she is woman who has been destabilized and damaged by some past trauma. Stricken with guilt, Emily tries to discover as much as she can about Rose, the woman who she feels took her place. She scours social media for details about Rose and her family, even going so far as to attend her funeral. What she sees leads her to covet the life led by the deceased, and she attempts to learn more by applying to replace Rose at her workplace. Emily insinuates herself there by acting as a supportive friend to the grieving people she meets, and eventually as a shoulder to cry on for Rose’s famous husband. As the novel progresses, Allen slowly unfolds Emily’s history, creating questions about her main character’s reliability and state of mind. Emily, desperate for a sense of identity and connection, makes increasingly bad choices that soon place her in the crosshairs of a killer. The reader has no recourse but to rely on Emily’s point-of-view, despite sensing that she might be deluded and have a skewed perspective about what is happening around her. This book was a great quick read, fast-paced with some nice twists, and would appeal to mystery fans of Girl on a Train (Paula Hawkins) or Big Little Lies (Liane Moriarty).

      Her Name Was Rose is one of those big books of the summer. I keep seeing it everywhere on social media. And it's a really great read. Emily is damaged from a previous relationship with a man, so when she sees Rose Grahame knocked over and killed in front of her it hits her hard, especially given that she let Rose go ahead of her. Should it have been Emily whose life was snuffed out in the blink of an eye instead?Emily becomes obsessed with Rose, with looking at the outpouring of grief on her social media channels, and she has an awareness of Rose's husband, Cian, and young son, Jack. I love the idea of Emily feeling that Rose's death left a vacancy. But it's not simply a case of stepping into Rose's shoes. Is Rose's life what Emily really wants or needs? I feel that what I'm writing is putting Emily across as conniving, making it sound as though she sets out to simply take over where Rose left off, but she's really not. She's just mixed up, messed up and lonely, looking for happiness. I liked Emily and wanted that happiness for her.I thought this book was a slow burner at first, setting the scene and introducing all the characters, mostly people that Rose knew. And then it really got into its stride and had me hooked, watching from afar whilst Emily got more and more involved in Rose's old life. I read in semi-horror, thinking that things surely couldn't be that simple. Well, you'll need to read for yourself to find out whether Emily's involvement in Rose's old life was to her advantage or not.I thought there was a great turn of events towards the end, totally unexpected and really well done. And the ending itself was perfect, I couldn't have asked for more. Her Name is Rose is an accomplished, believable and intense psychological thriller and I enjoyed reading it very much.
