About this audiobook

Readers and critics alike raved over USA Today bestselling author Sally Thorne’s smash hit debut novel, The Hating Game—which sold in over 20 countries. Now she’s back with an unforgettable romantic comedy about a twin sister and brother struggling over an inheritance—and the sexy best friend who comes between them.

Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

… If Darcy Barrett hadn’t met her dream man when she was eight years old, the rest of the male population wouldn’t be such a let-down. No one measures up to Tom Valeska, aka the best man on Earth, not in looks, brain or heart. Even worse is the knowledge that her twin brother Jamie saw him first, and claimed him forever as his best friend.

Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. One percent of Tom has had to be enough for Darcy, and her adoration has been sustained by his shy kindness. And if she’s honest, his tight t-shirts.

Now Darcy’s got three months left to get her life together, before her twin insists on selling the tumble-down cottage they inherited from their grandmother. By night, she’s working in a seedy bar, shooting down lame pickups from bikers. By day, she’s sewing underwear for her best friend and wasting her award-winning photography skills on website shots of pens and novelty mugs. She’s enjoying living the messy life, and a glass of wine or ten… until that one night, when she finds a six-foot-six perfect package on her porch.

Tom’s here, he’s bearing power tools—and he’s single for the first time in a decade.

As a house flipper extraordinaire, Tom has been dispatched by Jamie to give the cottage a drastic facelift that will result in a ton of cash. Darcy doesn’t appreciate Tom’s unsentimental approach to knocking down walls, and he really, really doesn’t approve of her current burnout boyfriend. They can’t be in the same room together without sparks flying- and it’s not the faulty wiring. One bedroom wall separates them at night, and even that’s looking flimsy.

Will Tom ever see Darcy as anything other than a little-sister obstacle to get around? And can she stand up to her most formidable opponent—her twin? This time around, she’s determined to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers, and he’s never managed to say no to her yet…

Cute and funny. Everyone had issues and that made everyone alot more likeable. Good chemistry and definitely entertaining.

All the feels. Don’t listen to the haters, this book was sweet with an edgy female lead. It was wonderfully written. Definitely a slower pace, especially if you listen to the audio book, but with it.

After 9 chapters I am not sure I want to continue this... this ... thing. There's this heroine (if I can call her that) who clearly has issues. Several of them. Well, I got to heart issues that she keeps ignoring. Having a very unhealthy relationship with her twin. Thinking she has to have this boy (or should I say man?) that moved next door to their place years ago but her twin kind of took for his own.

Then we have this hero (I think) who seems to be mostly a bear of a man, 6ft6in tall, very muscly and tends to wear faded t-shirts, and has a chihuahua.

And then there's this odd relationship between the hero and the heroine. With tons of miscommunication and no communication.

And I simply do not feel like it. 9 chapters is all I can take. A pity really as this book has been on my TBR for years now and I hoped for so much more.

I stayed up until 6.30am to read this book. That should really tell you enough about how much I enjoyed it ?It was a complete joy to read that left me with warm fuzzy feelings and a book hangover.

This book is grittier and angstier than The Hating Game, but it's neither a dark comedy nor a dark romance. It's an intense ride with quirky characters and high stakes. I was a little put off by the dangerous feel of the bar in the opening, but there are no more scenes there after the first one. I loved the secondary characters and hope they get their own books.

Darcy behaved like a spoiled toddler, so did her brother. Tom behaved like a loyal old dog. They where all just irritating, not funny.

Didn’t finish as I decided my time was worth more than listening to this book. Started it after The Hating Game which I really liked but this did not live up to it.

I've waited nearly two years after this book's release to read it and four years after reading all-time favorite rom-com, The Hating Game. Intentional? Maybe. Smart? Absolutely. It's hard to read an author's sophomore release without expectations after falling head over heels with their debut. Mixed reviews and a lower overall rating also helped temper any expectations. In fact, I would say they significantly lowered them. Even under those conditions, it didn't help me rate this any higher than 3 stars.

    The good stuff:

Thorne managed to create a story that was entirely different in tone, voice, humor, and characterizations. There were no similarities to The Hating Game and I loved that. In all respects, it could have been an entirely different author. For me, that is a big compliment. There are many accomplished authors who are great with that, but so often I see regularly releasing writers whose books exude a similar tone and quite often a familiar diction, where the writing becomes rote and tiresome. Or, it's that I get bored with the similarities between books.

    The not-so-good:

In some ways, it was the tone, as well as the push/pull between the main characters that made it a rather odd romance for me. I wasn't particularly fond of how the heroine was characterized and I tried really hard to see past her sometimes brusque and aggressively assertive nature. It was mentioned that she looked and acted different from when she was as old as 18, but I never fully understood why. Was it regret or that her teenage crush was with someone else for the past eight years? I also didn't feel a true connection between the two. I was told about some of their childhood and various moments in between, but those weren't enough to convince me of their current attraction.

    The overall:

99 Percent Mine was a decent sophomore effort. It wasn't a standout nor will it necessarily be memorable, but it was compelling enough to keep me reading and entertained.

I did not care for the main female love interest. Any emotion I felt was from the male love interest and how crappy his “friends” treated him. I think the medical issue was not presented in a believable manner and was pushed on the reader. Overall it was just ok.

2.5 ⭐I'm on 10th chapter and plot is not bad at all, not for this kind of a book at least. But narrator is a bit boring. Pleasant voice, but from line to line I couldn't distinguish the inner monologue from the real one.

Sally Thorne is quickly becoming my new favorite writer. This childhood friends to lovers story totally stole my heart! Definitely recommend!

This may have been a better book if I didn't find the main female character so hard to warm up to. Unfortunately, she's a bit too much of a hard a$$ for me. I found her hard to love and therefore hard to see how the main male character could warm up to or love her. She also describes herself in great length as fairly unattractive and says she looks like a boy, but Tom thinks she's super sexy and later the author tries to say she's attractive in others eyes. To top it off this is one of those books where the author tries to create a super-clueless female main character and it comes off as unbelievably clueless to the point that she is lacking common sense. Not very aware of herself and others. Also has a hard time feeling worthy. Did not give me the feels.

DNF. Did not connect to the main character, she gave off NLOG vibes.
This is my second book by this author and so far it has been 0/2 for me. The style of narration also made me uncomfortable.

I wanted to love this, because so am obsessed with The Hating Game. This was just meh to me. I feel like the characters had so much potential and they just sort of fell flat. The plot could have been deeper. Also the characters were childish in a way. I just didn’t really connect with any one person in the story. I loved the chihuahua though.

Kinda has a slow start. It's a friends to lovers trope but good. I like the family element but it definitely took too long for the real dialogue to begin.

The general story was sweet but was overshadowed by the extreme use of expletives and crude sexual dialogue. The Hating Game is by far the better book. Hopefully this author will write another romance vs. practically porn.

I love Darcy. She's not your typical ingenue, which is refreshing. Another great book from this author!
Update: I think I've listened to this three times and I just love it as much every time. Every character is flawed and human and makes mistakes. Which is great because there is also growth and change and a lovely ending. But the writing is just beautiful too, something I really noticed this last listen.

Had potential and was enjoyable but got a bit lost i think. The big climactic fight was hard to follow, not really sure what anyone was mad about because they kept changing what they were mad about? Weird. The female lead was pretty shallow about the male lead, even in the epilogue.
And the extra epilogue for hating game was pretty dumb.

This was a fun, quick read for me! The three main characters were all quirky with lots of baggage. I love when a romance novel has characters that aren’t perfect and full of flaws. While Darcy thinks Tom is “perfect” the story shows that it’s impossible for anyone to live up to such high expectations.

I've read a handful of others' reviews of 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne, but unlike most of those readers, I was not eagerly anticipating Thorne’s second book. I have not yet read "The Hating Game,” nor knew about the author. I ended up purchasing this book at a Barnes &Noble “Blind Date with a Book” display. In particular, I was drawn to blind date clues indicating the book included "property reconstruction," "friends to lovers," and "witty dialogue." I admit I had some trouble early on getting the hang of the dialogue, but once I settled in, I read the book in a few hours. While I enjoyed the book, it isn’t on my favorites list. Having said that, I have a pretty long list of DNFs, so I considered it good enough to finish, and even stayed up late to do so. Protagonist Darcy Barrett, her love interest Tom Valeska, and Darcy's twin brother Jamie were an unusual friendship triangle. Darcy’s best friend Truly didn’t appear enough in the book for my liking, and I am on the hunt for Underswears. Do they exist?
