About this audiobook

"Listeners looking for creepy will find it in full force in Alex North's dark thriller, narrated by British actor Christopher Eccleston." -- AudioFile Magazine

"Reader Eccleston...adds flavor to the tale. He reads with a fervor that gives the story a strong sense of suspense." -- Booklist

This program is read by acclaimed British actor Christopher Eccleston.

In this psychological thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of suspense, as a father and son are caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.

After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.

But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed "The Whisper Man," for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.

Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter's crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.

And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window...

Praise for The Whisper Man:

"The Whisper Man is the most unsettling thriller I have read since Jo Nesbo’s The Snowman. Much more than the sum of its parts, it is nightmarish and disturbing and, at the same time, a moving and life-affirming novel about fathers and sons, and grief, loss, and recovery." -Alex Michaelides, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Silent Patient

“There’s a soft voice outside your window and it demands your attention. The Whisper Man is coming. In fact, he’s already here. Get ready to be unnerved. This novel is thrilling." - Brad Meltzer, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Unpopular opinion… I did not enjoy this book at all. I felt like there were too many different subplots making it difficult to become invested in any of them. I made it a little more than halfway through the book and just couldn’t get interested. I DNF’d around 60%.

I think this book had a lot of potential, it was such a great idea. But over all, it was a let down for me. But the narration didn’t do it much justice either, it was very monotone which made it so hard to follow sometimes. But there were a few good parts & some twists that kept me interested.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very realistic, like a true crime fiction. I would love to read a prequel.

The story was engaging despite being somewhat predictable. The characters were easily relatable.

I was pleased with this read and would definitely suggest others to read it too.

Tom Kennedy & his son , Jake, move to a new house for a fresh start after the sudden death of his wife. They move to Featherbank but unbeknownst to them. Twenty years ago, there was a serial killer who abducted & killed five boys. Labeled The Whisper Man, he learned children from their bedrooms by whispering to them outside their windows at night. Even though he is now in jail serving his time, the legend still lingers. Now, when a boy in Jake's new class gets abducted under similar circumstances, the stories of The Whisper Man start up again. But how could it be if he's already in jail? And who will be next? I saw so many good reviews for this book. But as I started into it , I almost DNFed it because I felt it didn't give off the vibe I expected. But I stuck through it & I'm so glad I did because it picked up quite fast & was great all the way through.

This audio book was terrific. I felt emotions for the characters which at times brought me to tears. The horror was not specific but opened a door and let you take it as far in as you wanted. So well written, the realism allowed the narrator's read, which was monotoned to work. If your looking for gore or hard core brutality this is not it but if you want a good story this is it.

“If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.
If you play outside alone, soon you won’t be going home.
If your window’s left unlatched, you’ll hear him tapping at the glass.

I finally did it! Okay, so I own the physical copy of this book but I did end up going the audio route. Narrator was awesome! However, I knocked the wall down of finally getting to one of Alex’s books! And let me tell you it’s not gonna stop! “??? ???????” is going to be up next very soon! I’m also so very happy to say I got a copy of Alex’s new ARC “??? ????? ?????” Eeeek! I’m very excited!

Okay, so bad news I have for this book which really isn’t bad news at all. I was told by many of you, that this was a pretty scary read. Like really scary lol and I’m sorry to say but I wasn’t satisfied in the scariness department here. But who’s to say what scares some of us and what doesn’t for the rest right? Honestly books really don’t scare me. It’s more movies that do that & my husband explained to me this is because we don’t have control of the camara.

So, of course we’re like on edge and like ahhhhh when things jump out. But when we’re reading, we have to use our own imaginations. And believe me mines pretty good at details lol but still no scare here. Still a really great listen and I recommend!

Loved the book hated the narration. He might as well been reading the phone book for all the lack of emotion which made it hard to tell who was speaking at times. It's to the author's credit that the writing could overcome such a terrible narration. Would love to hear it again in the future with a professional narrator.
