About this audiobook

~Lambda Literary Award finalist for the best LGBT YA novel of 2018~

A fresh, charming rom-com perfect for fans of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Boy Meets Boy about Nathan Bird, who has sworn off happy endings but is sorely tested when his former best friend, Ollie, moves back to town.

Nathan Bird doesn’t believe in happy endings. Although he’s the ultimate film buff and an aspiring screenwriter, Nate’s seen the demise of too many relationships to believe that happy endings exist in real life.

Playing it safe to avoid a broken heart has been his MO ever since his father died and left his mom to unravel—but this strategy is not without fault. His best-friend-turned-girlfriend-turned-best-friend-again, Florence, is set on making sure Nate finds someone else. And in a twist that is rom-com-worthy, someone does come along: Oliver James Hernández, his childhood best friend.

After a painful mix-up when they were little, Nate finally has the chance to tell Ollie the truth about his feelings. But can Nate find the courage to pursue his own happily ever after?

Here is the thing, I like this author a lot. I enjoyed "Felix Ever After". I was hopeful. I just found a lot of the characters bit annoying. I was so proud of Ollie for standing upstairs for himself when he was treated bad by Nate. But I really didn't like Flo for most of the book.

I thought the ending was sweet though. It is about growing and dealing with pushing boundaries. Overall, 2.5

A cute story but not beyond, nice to pass the time

I enjoyed the narrator but unfortunately the story fell flat.

    Ok, first things first.
I absolutely adored Nate and Ollie. (Main character and love interest.)
I can't say the same about, basically anyone else in the story, though.
Nate's mom is grieving her husband's death which I completely understand but it comes out sideways at Nate in some really controlling ways that made me really uncomfortable.
Likewise, Nate's best friend-turned girlfriend-turned best friend, Flo has some boundary issues of her own, along with possibly jealousy issues.
I don't know. Maybe the rest of the cast and crew coming off as completely unbearable made the relationship between Ollie and Nate that much sweeter.
It isn't either one of the boys' first relationship but it has many elements of that first love theme to it. That part made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
A lot of the reviews have mentioned the cheating aspect and without going into details, nah, I don't condone it but, at the same time, it was not as flagrantly bad as some books nor as awful as some folks have made it out to be.
I think, overall, I really wanted to like this book more than I did. If you've been following me for a while, you know I don't write "I didn't love this book" reviews very well. I didn't hate it but it just wasn't that "heart thumping, gooey all over" read I was expecting.

Unfortunately, I didn't much like Nate. He was self-absorbed, almost completely un-self-aware, and inconsiderate of the feelings of those around him. In other words, a fairly typical teenager, but that didn't make him more fun to spend time with.
