About this audiobook
Lane Moore is a rare performer who is as impressive onstage—whether hosting her iconic show Tinder Live or being the enigmatic front woman of It Was Romance—as she is on the page, as both a former writer for The Onion and an award-winning sex and relationships editor for Cosmopolitan. But her story has had its obstacles, including being her own parent, living in her car as a teenager, and moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. Through it all, she looked to movies, TV, and music as the family and support systems she never had.
From spending the holidays alone to having better “stranger luck” than with those closest to her to feeling like the last hopeless romantic on earth, Lane reveals her powerful and entertaining journey in all its candor, anxiety, and ultimate acceptance—with humor always her bolstering force and greatest gift.
How to Be Alone is a must-read for anyone whose childhood still feels unresolved, who spends more time pretending to have friends online than feeling close to anyone in real life, who tries to have genuine, deep conversations in a roomful of people who would rather you not. Above all, it’s a book for anyone who desperately wants to feel less alone and a little more connected through reading her words.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a beautiful story, well written and voiced if you're listening to the audio book. I could totally relate and feel like she was speaking out of my head. This made me laugh, cry and feel at peace that I'm not the only one out there that feels this way. I love being alone but I can't wait until the time when I don't have to be. We are all on our own journey.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Compassionate lfe advice bleeding with twisted humor and trauma. The author beautifully articulates the pain she's been through while keeping a hopeful yet realistic (and often humorous) look on the now and on the future. Her portrayal on romance is refreshingly vibrant. Definitely suggest reading with tissues.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It feels like I was listening to a conversation with a good friend. My life is so strikingly similar to Lane Moore’s that there were points where I cried because it felt so much like my own story.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I usually don’t quit books but I stopped after the first chapter. This is just a self-pity party - neither humorous nor sad, not at all enlightening or helpful.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5She literally complained half the book. First chapter was informational.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It wasn't what I was expecting but it was the funniest stuff I have heard in a while.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5the book was definitely entertaining! though based off the title I expected it to be more of a self-help book rather than an autobiography. still fun to listen to though, and parts were relatable!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well it wasn’t what I was looking for (I was hoping for a guide to getting off the codependency train), but it was really well read and entertaining! 5 stars for it turning into something funny when I had a list of much drier titles to tackle. It also helped me feel grateful for my own life. Plus it’s her first book and she sounded like a pro!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was amazing! Lane Moore reading from her book was the best thing I could’ve done these last few couple of days and getting to listen to her story left me feeling all types of emotions! Truly felt her words, her message and I’m so glad she found success through all her hard work! I’m a fan and I can’t wait for more of her writing and look forward to seeing her comedy and listening to her music in the near future!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed this book alot I do recommand for people whi feel alone or just dealt with loneliness or lonesomeness at some point ti read this highly relatable and cathartic recounting of this awsome authors journey, thoughts, emotions and conclusions that at the end would be worth taking on your on journey in life
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5“I identify with this on an unhealthy level.” -my 13 year old son after listening to the chapter about babysitting Phoenix. This entire book felt as if the voice in my head had escaped and written down all of my inner angst and shared it with the world. So real and so honest. If you’re grappling with trauma, past or present, this book is like sitting down with a good friend who holds your hand and says “I understand and I’m here for you” and really, truly means it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So relatable, I felt like I was talking to someone I could actually relate to. I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Cryin in the club rn. The club is neighborhood, and I’m on a run alone. So I thought.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Through Lane's events, situations, & circumstances, I was able to connect with parts of myself that I've not liked --even hated. I found compassion for her and allowed myself to be gentler for my imperfections I so insanely fought at all costs to avoid. Maybe I can learn to be alone and love for the sake of being human. Thanks. Karen
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's a very honest and genuinely relatable book... and maybe part of that is my status as millennial female. But I think there's a lot to get out of it. I don't relate to everything, but it did make me feel less alone.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is not what I thought it was going to be at all but I still throughly enjoyed it the author has such a fun sense of humor!

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Super boring. It is just a long self-pity rant with no story, nothing of unusual happening.
Don't waste your time.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Thought it was a self help book to be independent, to be strong about solitude, to handle it like it's nothing and to make it a strength. Instead it was just a draining sob story. Stopped after chapter 5.
