About this audiobook
How long can you fight Fate? How far must you go to claim what is yours?
Sidroc the Dane has been in Angle-land for 12 years. The first nine were all hard fighting. He has won treasure beyond counting, and now peace for his men. But there is one thing he still desires: Ceridwen as his wife.
Now Fate conspires to tear Ceridwen and Sidroc away from Angle-land. Thrust together amidst great danger and hardship they fight to survive - and fight each other. Each day takes them farther from the loyalties and laws of the lands they have called home, and deeper into new challenges and opportunities. Ceridwen's ties to Kilton and all it represents are strong, yet Sidroc is steadfast in his claim to her. A rescued stranger stands between both of their desires, threatening to destroy all that Sidroc has worked and killed to preserve.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was much less engrossing than the first book, perhaps because after Ceridwen had decided she was not a Christian as well as given her brother-in-law a son, I had a hard time caring about her. Ceridwen's husband, Gyric, and their infant daughter died in a sickness. She and her son, now 10, go to visit Aelfwyn and Sidroc. Aelfwyn is well aware that Sidroc has always loved Ceridwen, but he has been a good husband to her, and since she does not love him either it does not pain her terribly. Ceridwen decides to leave her son with them for a while, and as Sidroc and his men are returning her to the ship to take her back home, she and Sidroc are captured by slave traders. Thus begins a journey across the Baltic Sea, encountering various hostile groups. Ceridwen realizes that Sidroc does not intend to return. He sees this as his chance to begin a new life with her. She, of course, feels like a prisoner, but at the same time she remembers the years of self-restraint and friendship that he has shown her. Finally, Sidroc convinces her that if they were to return after spending so long together, her brother-in-law Godwin would defend her honor by challenging Sidroc to battle, and one of them would die. This would also hurt Aelfwyn, probably more than Sidroc just disappearing. So Sidroc abandons his home, wife, and children, and Ceridwen leaves her son, knowing he will be raised well by Godwin and Edgyth.Ehhh... kind of a disappointing ending. But as in the other books, the details of the time were very well described.
