About this audiobook
Roland Vawdrey is used to the best. As the King's champion he sets all the maiden's hearts a-flutter. When it comes to picking out a wife, he knows exactly what he requires, perfection of face and form.
Naturally, his choice falls on the fair Lenora. His dreams may be haunted by a stolen kiss with uptight Eden, but he's not about to throw himself away on some prim, paragon of virtue!
Eden Montmayne prefers poets to knights, and would rather read a book than watch the jousting. When a betrothal feast goes awry, there is a truly scandalous outcome for Eden and Roland that throws the royal court into chaos. Even more shockingly, people soon start to wonder, could the resulting marriage be the making of them both? Despite the fact it was such an ill-made match?
Contains mature themes.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Roland is the King's champion and can have his pick of any of the maidens. Inexplicably, he is fascinated by Eden, the Queen's lady who organized court fetes and has no interest in him whatsoever. Karadok is a fascinating medieval world, and Ms. Coldbreath has put the Vawdrey brothers at the center of it. There are interesting details about jousting, but the centerpiece is the enemies-to-lovers romance. Roland and Eden do the trope justice in another fun story from this author.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/52.5 rounded up to 3 stars. For the first 2/3s of this book I was leaning toward 4 stars. I liked how 'right' the hero felt paired with the heroine, even while he couldn't explain it yet. I hadn't cared for him as a side character, but his developing feelings here endeared him to me. They had some growing pains to their relationship, but that's to be expected when two people are suddenly thrown together, especially when they're opposites. Quite a bit had happened and if a couple loose threads had been tied up then, it could have easily ended there as a full book. The last third though, just felt like drawn-out fluff. So many scenes could have been cut entirely and nothing significant would have changed. They even rehashed the entire story up to that point, in great detail... when we had just gone through it all with the characters! I think the author was trying to create some symmetry with the two previous books, but, I'm not sure that ground really needed to be retread for a third time either. An elaborate explanation was given for how they'd ended up together, but it had been blatantly obvious from the very start, so it didn't really need like an entire chapter laying it all out. And the plot justification for this extended ending was a stretch to begin with. I just was astounded by how tedious and unnecessary it was. It's unfortunate when a decent book ends in a sorry slog.
