About this audiobook

A false engagement. A mysterious coast. Two reluctant hearts.

Much to her father's dismay, Miss Amelia Buxton aspires to become a spinster, just like her eccentric aunt. Growing up with parents who married for every reason but love, she has never seen a joyful marriage. When Amelia requests a summer trip to the legendary waters of Brighton, her father allows her the excursion, but with one requirement: she must return engaged, or agree to the proposal of the man of his choosing.

Crawling with tourists, Brighton is not the town Adam Claridge once loved. When his sister Eleanor disappears without warning, Adam is desperate to bring her home. In his search, he happens upon Miss Amelia Buxton, a young tourist that proves vital in his search for Eleanor. But Amelia is conducting a search of her own-a search for a husband-and Adam has little choice but to offer a fair trade: he will play the role of Amelia's betrothed in exchange for her assistance in finding Eleanor.

Convenient at first, Amelia and Adam's arrangement quickly plummets into disarray. Falling in love had not been part of their bargain.

The story was pretty good but the narrator’s voice made the story less enjoyable.

    What I liked:
Different take on the fake engagement idea.
Good banter between hero and heroine.
    What I didn't like:
The supporting characters felt very much as a vehicle for the progress of the main story rather than good subplots that explored their character as well. I felt that they had been unfairly used with no HEA as compensation. Unless this is resolved in later books
The build up of the sister's disappearance was good but the actual reason didn't make sense with what we had learnt about the other characters. And made the ending a bit frustrating.

I was looking for a clean romance. This was clean. I'm a little lost about the romance. It wasn't a super interesting story. It did have some humorous aspects. There were other areas where I was confused about characters' actions. Was I supposed to like this person or not? I really don't like to complain about people's work, but the narrator was very annoying. The inflection used made every other sentence seem dramatic. It was over the top and became distracting. I would probably listen to the others in this series if I needed something to pass the time, but the idea of the same narrator makes me very hesitant. I don't think I could listen to them consecutively.
