About this audiobook

The Richest Man in Babylon is a 1926 book by George S. Clason that dispenses financial advice through a collection of parables set 4,000 years ago in ancient Babylon.

The parables are told by a fictional Babylonian character called Arkad, a poor scribe who became the "richest man in Babylon". Included in Arkad's advice are the "Seven Cures" (or how to generate money and wealth), and the "Five Laws of Gold" (or how to protect and invest wealth).

Valuable for those who haven't read much about finance.

I give it 5 stars because it would have served me when I was younger but I didn't learn much because of all that I already knew.

This book helpfully lets you know of its origins as a pamphlet banks used to give out and it shows! Trust the wise money men to handle your affairs!

Lots of standard personal responsibility stuff and some weird ideas.

1st weird idea: The king of babylon, for example, tries to solve a recession by hiring "the richest man in babylon" to give seminars to less rich men.

2nd weird thing: handling of slavery is very weird, kind of an implication that all slaves have it coming given they have the hearts of slaves rather than the hearts of free men. Honestly hard to parse given the other anachronisms in the book exactly how I'm supposed to feel about it.

    Richest Man in Babylon

This is a decent read. It's not long, it's short and to the point and it's compiled with stories that are still relevant today.

Wealth isn't about how much money you have to the strategy in which you can make it work for you.

Most of us are slaves to our desires as such we purchase more material things than we can pay for hence cultivating a lot of debt.

My most important takeaway from this book is that when you get paid no matter how big or small, always put away no less than  ten percent (pay yourself first) or else you're going to be a slave to bills and desires and not gaining anything physically from what you are earning.

By always putting away this money your cultivating a way in which money can always come to you.

Historical but still very much relevant.
