Gripping noir story with unabashedly gay sex and romance and post-apocalyptic inventiveness.

The narrator absolutely nailed the presentation and delivery of this book! There is nothing that I didn't like, and my only regret is that I've listened to all of it in one day

Language, imagery, plot and characterisation were all so well done!! Looking froward to reading the sequel! And the Narrator was nothing short of a voice actor: Absolutely NAILED IT!! Great Job! I’ll be looking for more of his work, too!

Well executed book. Loved the narrator. I found the pacing great. This is one of those books which manages to create a world which intrigues and leaves you both satisfied and wantng more.

Slow start. Strong finish. Challenges common perceptions re: roles and value of different classes of people.

Interesting, but so empty. A future dystopi were a detective who are one of few natural humans trying to live a pitiful existence as the world slowly dies.

It was too gay, the premise of animal human hybrids was also childish

The book is well written and well read (audio version). One star for a description clearly meant to lead the interested reader into a sci-fi detective novel, but delivers an LGBT romance instead.

A dark dystopian detective novel with an unapologetically gay protagonist.

Intriguing set up, and a world I'd be interested in exploring. But my lord-- the amount of grinding anger the reader brought was *way* over the top. Intensity, like seasoning, can work in moderation, but it became irritating AF before the book was half over.

Okay book, but the random gay sex in parks was disgusting. Really ruined the story.

What a great story..interesting in its combination of Chicago noir detective and Dune ..the voiced over (the best version imho) Bladerunner comes to mind! Expertly narrated and voiced with a full range of emotions coming through. Congratulations to both writer and reader

Unfortunately I can't recommend this book. I couldn't find any sense in the plot full of contradiction, too much pseudo philosophical brooding and too much queer sex for my liking.

It was a great classic gumshoe story with a Sci fi twist...until the end where it spun out into extreme monologueing. I wish the writer had edited this a bit better, as it mansplained the mystery and got a bit hysterical. Otherwise it was a great story with some beautiful writing.

Lots of details about how the main character prostitutes himself that does nothing to make the story to forward. Also uses a lot of new terminology which is never really defined

The novelty of this story (detective noir) is interesting at times and annoying at other times. It pushes the story in places and drags it to an absolute crawl everywhere else.
The story also sometimes forgets its own core logic in it's futuristic setting. For example, certain things are very much remembered about the past (as a convenient way to lure the reader back in), while plot dictates that other things be completely forgotten and lost to history. I really wish some of the futuristic normalities had been explained better, I think it would have made for a more complete and deeper story.
In the end, it set out to tell a slightly different story than other sci fi novels and it didn't quite get all the way there for me.

Really tedious and half-baked. Too much time spent on the main character looking directly at the camera to lecture us, not enough world building that's actually meaningful.

Wow! What a fantastic book. Well written and just a delight to read. Very impressed with this author's world building and descriptions. Truly enjoyed his way of allowing the reader to use their imagination during the sexy scenes...not too much detail, enough to let you know the jist of it. Probably one of the best sci-fi books I have read in years. Will absolutely read his other books as well, no doubt about it.

This would be a great book if the author wasn't so obsessed with sex. Constant comments from the narrator about who he's had sex with, who he wants to, how everyone just wants to get laid blah blah blah.

Like, we get it bro you're horny and sex OBSESSED. It just makes ever "monologue" sound stupid and brings the value of the writing down. It wasn't bad at first but it gets old and annoying very quickly.

Great writing with narration to match. Really captures hard boiled detective genre in noir dystopian future. Goes beyond tropes to connect us to humanity in all its permutations -- including the progression to AI and genetic enhancements. As others have said, excellent world building, layer upon layer. And memorable three dimensional characters, even those only momentarily presented. Honest and insightful presentation of the intricacies comprising sex, intimacy and relationships. As a heterosexual reader the orientation made no difference to me.

Basically, it was very very disappointing. Action: Horrible! It took two to three chapters for any hint of action to occur. As for promotion of gay male sex, 100%. As for divergent non-story/paths.. which resulted in a waist of time.. 100%.

The author took too much time just walking three steps forward. Truly a waist of time... unless you have been a gay man/ prostitute.
