About this ebook
When you least expect it, life can turn you around. Take forty-something Jane Larson. Although she views her situation with wry humor, her life feels frozen. An architect, she's had the same job for eighteen years, designing chain banks, grocery stores, and dry cleaners instead of the beautiful houses she craves to create. Living in Brooklyn with her difficult teenage daughters, she's lost all hope for the possibility of love or excitement.
Then she's let go from her firm and is suddenly free to pursue her career dreams. And when she contacts her old college flame, an exhilarating long-distance correspondence with him reawakens that part of her she's long ignored. Does Jane have the courage to gamble with her heart? Can happily-ever-after be a reality for people who've done it all before?
With warmth and humor Fields explores the territory of middle age, proving that it's never too late to reinvent your life, or to take the risks that bring us the pleasures we all deserve.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As usual, it always helps when I really like the main character---in this case a divorced architect, mother of twins, trying to sort out her life amid losing her job. An email reconnection with the first real love of her life makes the story very readable---people change over time, or do they?
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was good, but I liked her other novel, "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" better. A lot going on in this book, and I thought it was predictable.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really was surprised at how good a book this turned out to be. Although it is a very light read, it was a good story with strong characters and it flowed nicely. The only problem I had with this book was the extreme overuse of the word "extraordinary". I cannot imagine how the author or her editor could have not noticed this. It about drove me crazy! I was actually laughing time and time again when the word would appear...sometimes 2 and 3 times within a couple pages. It just struck me as "extraordinarily" too much of a good word! Geez!!Other than getting hung up on that "e" word, this book was well written and I would like to see more of this author's work.
