- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Quite confusing. I don't understand the ending. What's it supposed to be?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This short story is told via the tweets of a teenage girl.
I don't tweet, so when I discovered that this was to be the format of the story, I was not impressed.
However, as I continued to read, the story reeled me in.
A family is traveling towards home, coming back from vacation, when they see a sign for the Circus of the Dead. Who could let such an opportunity pass by? The family attends this circus which is startlingly realistic. Maybe TOO realistic.
I loved the originality of this story which combines the technology of today with the fantastic story telling abilities of old. Highly recommended!
(read 8.9.13) - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the literary equivalent of a found footage movie. but it sticks with you when you're through.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5That was creepy.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A VERY short story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Yup a really fast read. I loved Wolverton Station and was hoping for the same. Not quite - short story, worth reading and in a way like Wolverton Station - unlikable main character and strange events that suddenly turn gory. But missing the humour of Wolverton Station and the final punch line.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I found this short story to be delightful and scary. It's narrated through a series of tweets from a snarky teenage girl with the appropriate amount of teenage angst. In short, it's just a Twitter feed.
Things go from mundane to spooky to downright scary within the span of a short story. The ending is expected but that doesn't take away any of the charm or fun of this story.
Excellent. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Told through a series of tweets, Twittering from the Circus of the Dead is a new take on the zombie story. Blake (Tyme2Waste, is a teenage girl documenting the torture of a road-trip vacation with her parents and brother on her Twitter feed. Things go from bad to worse as she fights with her mom and then her dad leaves the interstate and gets lost. The family pulls into the lot of the Circus of the Dead and decides to go in, despite the creepy factor, and violence and horror ensues.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have to say when I first started reading Twittering from the Circus of the Dead my initial reaction was "WTF?". When I downloaded this short story I didn't read any of the reviews. I'm a huge King fan and a fan of Hill's as well, so I usually just buy their work and expect good things. This clever short zombie story written completely in the form of Tweets. I wasn't expecting that. The twitter feed is from an angsty teenage girl, Blake (TYME2WASTE), whose parents don't understand her. Blake is on a road trip with her parents and her younger brother. She tweets her random thoughts every few minutes, which are mostly complaints. As the story takes off, the tweets begin to get pretty scary. The family stops at a roadside attraction called The Circus of the Dead where things go from bad to worse. 7:02PM- 2 Mar from Tweetie TYME2WASTE We are driving up to something called the Circus of the Dead. The ticket guy looks REALLY sick. Not funny-sick. SICK-sick.What starts off as a bored teenage girl's Twitter feed, turns into a horrifying story. In my opinion, Hill nails the voice of Blake. He also builds the story's momentum just perfectly and this short story left me shocked, and satisfied. There's zombies in it. What more can you want?Hill's writing here is similar to King's in the way that he writes a scary story, but adds a bit of sarcastic humor when least expected. I like that. Very clever on Joe Hill's part. I really enjoyed this one and recommend it to fans of Hill's as well as Twitter fans who enjoy a scary story.Since this one is written in the form of Tweets, I don't think non-tweeting folk would like it. I may be wrong though. It does go to show how social media truly is a part of our lives, if stories are being written in the form of Twitter feeds. It makes sense that Joe Hill wrote this one in Tweet form. He's often on Twitter tweeting away.disclaimer:This review is my honest opinion. I did not receive any type of compensation for reading and reviewing this book. I bought my copy of Twittering from the Circus of the Dead.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A short story about a young girl on vacation with her family who accidently come across a zombie circus...delivered via twitter? Written by Joe Hill? What's not to love.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Decidedly an interesting short story, bloody, gory, makes you want to puke, as expected. And , as expected not his father's writing.
