INTRODUCTION:
LET GOD TAKE THE WHEEL
I guide you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble. —Proverbs 4:11–12 NIV
As it was for so many of us who grew up in the South, church was a big part of my childhood years. I grew up singing hymns and participating in sword drills
—contests to see who could find a particular Bible passage the fastest. But like so many, as an adult I drifted away from the faith of my childhood. I was married to a country music star, and we had three little girls, and there were plenty of trappings of fame to hold my attention.
Then the storm winds blew into my life, shaking my marriage and my world to their very foundations. It was then that I heard God’s whisper, leading me to put my trust in Him, not in myself, not in how I looked, not in my husband, but in Him. Slowly He taught me to put my faith in Him, to let Him steer my life, and soon I found that He had given me brand-new confidence and brand-new joy and restored my marriage. Patiently and lovingly, He led me—and my family—home.
Since then, I’ve breathed in the wonderful sweetness of my heritage of faith and family. I’ve also discovered the excitement and joy of growing in God’s grace. Every day is a new adventure. I never know where God will lead me next.
No matter where you are in your journey of faith—whether you’re just starting out or feeling completely torn apart by circumstances or just need a fresh reminder of God’s amazing love—it is my prayer that these simple lessons I’ve learned along my journey will give you new confidence in God’s power to heal and restore anything that’s broken. He has a plan for your life. All He needs you to do is let Him take the wheel.
