A late night phone call entices a fun-loving young man into a world of unadulterated evil. The enchanting voice promises a night of carefree excitement. After a seemingly random discovery of an abandoned rural barn, his new acquaintance claims a fiendish clan uses the site to perform monthly rituals under the full moon. He doesn't want to appear scared in front of the beautiful young woman but declines an invitation to explore the grounds. Why was someone calling me at eleven o’clock at night? My friends had left over an hour ago and I had already settled into bed.

    Hello.

    Is this Robbie?

    Yeah, who’s this?

You don’t know me but I found your name on the bathroom wall.

It took a moment for that comment to sink in. Surely, this sultry voice was kidding. Someone was playing a trick on me. Pardon me?

Your number is written in the women’s restroom at the Mega-mart. I just had to call.

Now I was confused. Beth works at the mega-mart, but why would she do something odd like that? We went out for over a year and had just broken up about a month ago. She didn’t seem vindictive.

So, you found my name on the bathroom wall.

That’s right. I figured if someone thought enough of you to put your name there, you must be something special.

What kind of reasoning was that? Wouldn’t a person only write the name of someone they did not like in a toilet? What else did it say about me?

Nothing. It just had your name and phone number.

What kind of person would call a name from a bathroom wall? This was maybe a little frightening, but this voice was just too pleasant to be scary. Her smooth tone disarmed me. I was tired and not thinking right. So’ What’s you’re name?

    Liv.

Do you mean Liv like short for Olivia?

    No, just Liv

    You mean like L-I-V Liv?

It’s actually L-I-V-E, but yes, it’s pronounced Liv.

I thought about the unusual name for a moment as she made small talk. I don’t remember much of what she said after that, but it didn’t matter. Her soothing tone went on about music and rock bands. I mostly just listened. Perhaps her flirtatious voice hypnotized me.

    *

At almost one in the morning of that same night, I pulled off the main street and into a middle class neighborhood of small houses in the center of town. I turned down the hard rock music playing on my tape deck as I pulled into a driveway with my brand new 1981 silver Camaro Z28. I thought I was cool with my shoulder-length hair, windblown from the
