About this ebook

Have money. Be free. Live! For many, this feels like an eternal dream. In their funny self-help book, Paul and Alan describe what is at the core most important in both a business and personal sense. What is left, when you distil the information in all the famous financial self-help books that promise you so much, is only poor advice. What are the differences between those with a little money and those with a lot? Are there any at all?

Even if you’re not interested in riches, this book puts the gap between the poor and the rich into perspective in a very entertaining way.

Together with the reader they go on an educational field trip towards prosperity. They provide new perspectives and insights, especially for beginners. They give simple step-by-step instructions on how to develop ideas and found a first company. Furthermore, they focus on the cornerstones of success and wealth in general, highlight character development, morals, work ethics, and time management, and draw a useful and surprising conclusion. By clarifying false beliefs about making money, they encourage readers to overcome the naivety of thinking that success comes overnight. The truth in their arguments just makes you love these guys.

From a brief history of money and an outline of beginning a start-up, to personality development and the thinking of millionaires, this book provides a comprehensive insight into the world of the well-off. The book relies on facts and current studies. The guide introduces ideas to those who don’t yet have their own business idea. It takes a straight approach to realizing these ideas and developing them into a complete business plan. The reader is encouraged to adapt these concepts as he or she likes. No copyrights. Even if you have no idea at all, this book can help you get started as an entrepreneur. Paul and Alan show in an entertaining way what works for those who want to become wealthy.

    INTRODUCTION

I buy expensive suits. They just look cheap on me.

    (Warren Buffett)

Why write another book on potential wealth? There are already hundreds of books on the subject and they have just made their authors rich. Let's try it this way. There are many books that promise to provide you with the most subtle strategy to becoming an overnight millionaire in the stock market or in the private sector. Others suggest that maybe you should meet with friends for a séance and ask successful people of the past what led to their success. Perhaps you are told to only spend your money while oriented to the west AND when the moon is in the seventh house so that you wake up to see a massive heap of dollar bills piled up in front of you in your dining room and think to yourself, Hey presto, I'm rich.

Many financial self-help books emphasize in their very titles their own incredibly successful authors. A new, unprecedented way to wealth is stated - a way without the diligence and hard work. Do you think that is realistic? Unfortunately it is a dream. Come back to reality with us - the sooner the better.

So, what is it that we do differently? First of all, we do not promise you anything.

You may have skimmed through these pages a hundred times, with notes scribbled everywhere, and finally googled the latest research articles on the subject only to find yourself still empty-handed in the end. Yes, that's right.

The choice to read is up to you! If you are willing to invest a little time and listen to our unbiased advice, that would make a difference, for a start. Pay attention to your environment, to friends or even strangers - you never know where good ideas come from. Perhaps if you apply one or two of these ideas in your life, then you will remove all of the obstacles to your personal wealth.

However, don't be unrealistic (by thinking, for example, 'In two weeks, I would like to be a millionaire'). Do not be put off by setbacks. Keep focused on your big, individual goal of wealth and hold on firmly until you succeed.

Our book is divided into various chapters. You are encouraged to join in and move through it, because ultimately you are on a unique path to riches. Do the simple exercises we set out, and watch your skills progress with each step you take. It is a good feeling when you see what you have already accomplished and feel encouraged to pursue further change.

Remember, you only have one life. Your life. After your death you will either be reborn as a stone or plant, to eke out a boring life.

Having such rosy prospects, don't you think it is worth it to read our book?

You should give it a try. Become rich, or reasonably comfortable at least. With this in mind:

    Good luck!

    BRIEF HISTORY OF MONEY

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other. (Abraham Lincoln)

Money has been a medium of exchange for centuries. Nowadays we know that even Stone-Age men traded in primitive money. Perhaps you could exchange some beef jerky for a mammoth‘s tusk, or maybe you had to add in some fur as well to make the trade work. The fact is that trading is one of mankind’s favourite activities. Because fur can get wet and dry meat can go off, something more practical was needed: something that could be transported and stored well, something that could serve as a currency. Money was born.

May the historians forgive us for this slightly shortened version, but it hits the nail on the head: Money is a medium of exchange in which we place our trust. Money makes it easier to compare various products, services and currencies. But without our faith, money is little more than reasonably forgery-proof paper.

Money does not retain its value over time. This can be demonstrated relatively easily.

Take a guess: e.g. how many currencies have the Germans had over the course of the last century? One? Two? Hmm…

We do not want to put you on the rack. There were five (Mark, Pension Mark, Reichsmark, Allied Military Mark and the German Mark - strictly speaking, Germany has used the Euro since the late nineties, but it was not official until 2002). On average, each currency kept its value for only 20 years. You don’t believe us? Go, try getting some butter or a beer for one Reichsmark! We bet you can‘t...

What does this mean for you and your personal wealth? Well, first of all, that you need to learn how to earn money in the first place. Then you should invest it in your business, ideas, houses and so on.

Money is an instrument, nothing more and nothing less.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF LIFE WITH LITTLE MONEY

Why, at the end of the money, is there so much month left?

    (Anonymous)

Sarah's in her early 20s and works as a nurse in a nearby hospital. She wakes up every morning at 6 AM and leaves the clinic at 4.30 PM. Her job is very demanding, both physically and mentally. The patients are very nice in general. Sometimes it seems to her that the most pleasant patients are those who are the most seriously ill. In any case, she likes her job, though the pay cheque could be a bit bigger. Including night shifts and work at the weekends she earns about $2,000 per month. After taxes and health insurance she is left with $1,300 to live on. She spends $600 per month on rent, and $400 on food. The remaining $300 are pocket money. Occasionally she purchases new shoes, a new TV, or spends her money on concert or cinema tickets for herself and her boyfriend.

At the end of the money, unfortunately, there is still a lot of the month left.

Now and then she tries to save some of the pocket money for retirement or larger purchases. She doesn’t lack discipline, but there is just so little money. Recently, after two years of saving, she bought a car. She often wonders if she’ll have enough money set aside when she’s old.

Looking at Sarah's life, you can see that she’s not unhappy, but equally that she has no remote chance of financial independence in the future. Sometimes she is able to save some money, but mostly it doesn’t work well. In order to make major purchases, she will probably have to work an additional day, or start to make big purchases on bank credits, which in turn might lead to more financial liability as she will have to work even more to get rid of debts.

Sarah is a very nice nurse, but she unfortunately never learned the mechanisms of getting rich.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF LIFE WITH MORE MONEY

It is better to spend one day thinking about making money than to work a whole month for it.

    (Anonymous)

Julia is Sarah's best friend and has graduated with training as a bank clerk. From her monthly earnings, she puts 10% in her bank account at the very beginning of every month. She is not allowed to touch this money.

The first few months are pretty tough for her, because she always has that extra pocket money she can’t use on her mind. She thinks about all the pretty things she could
