    All about Beautiful Nails

Nails are a form of skin, which protects your fingers and toes, and also enables them to be more dexterous, so that you can pick up small objects, and be able to scratch your self with your fingers. The main function of nails is protection and it also helps for a firm grip for holding articles. Wearing shoes could be painful if you did not have toenails, as the nails take the pressure off the sensitive toe tips. They also protect the toes from injury when you are walking, climbing and jumping. If you have ever lost a toenail in an accident you will understand what I mean!

Nails have no color and are transparent, but because of the abundance of blood vessels under the skin, they appear pink when healthy. The tissue of the nail is called the matrix and the white half-moon (lunula) is at the top of this. Below the matrix is the nail bed, where the nail attaches to the finger. The cuticle, which is the skin that grows over the nail bed, grows towards the tip of the nail and forms a watertight seal protecting the matrix.

The cuticle should never be cut away as this increases the chance of getting a nail infection. Always be wary of nail infections as they can be very painful. Biting, picking and peeling nails can cause infection to set in.

Care for your twenty nails as best you can, and remember that they are part of your body and as such require certain nutrients to remain healthy and strong. In many cases the nails reveal bad health before any other signs are imminent. When nails become too thin and begin to flake and break and discolor for no apparent reason, then you can be assured that there’s a reason behind it. A shortage of certain nutrients in the diet or infection in the body is often the root cause of nail problems.

There are a few rules to keep your nails in peak condition

Because nails are right on the tips of your fingers and toes, they are often open to abuse by knocking and scraping.

Keep fingernails at a comfortable length, this will depend on the type of work you do, whether they should be
